January is not, historically, a great month for new movies. Awards season films will often expand nationwide to help class up the joint, but as far as brand new offerings go, it can be tough sledding. One benefit is that we frequently get an off-the-wall action movie. After all, January is the month that gave us Liam Neeson's unexpected action star turn in "Taken." January 2024 will give one of our hardest-working modern action stars, Jason Statham, the chance to shine in the very silly-looking "The Beekeeper." But can this movie's bonkers premise lure enough moviegoers in to make it a bona fide box office hit?
Director David Ayer's latest is eying a somewhat soft debut with "The Beekeeper" currently looking at an opening weekend in the $8 to $13 million range, per Box Office Pro. The film faces some direct competition as "The Book of Clarence" is also opening against it next weekend,...

Jennifer Aniston once teamed up with Oscar-winner Julia Roberts for the 2016 feature Mother’s Day. Although the two were well acquainted with each other, Roberts quipped that she was glad she didn’t share screen time with her co-star.

Aniston and Roberts both had trouble getting over the idea of working together for Mother’s Day. The two actors weren’t strangers, and they’d even worked together before on a prior project. When word of Thai actor Vachirawit Chivaaree, aka Bright, being in a movie with an Indian setting was announced, fans went feral over the revelation. The poster looks right out of a Bollywood movie, and the trailer even includes a Bollywood-ish song that got people excited. Congrats My Ex! tells the story of Risa, a Thai wedding planner who is tasked with planning the wedding of her Indian ex-boyfriend in Thailand. Desperate for money, she takes on the job even though she knows it’ll lead to heartbreak. But, immediately, catastrophe strikes, and she has to find her other ex, Tim, to do the photography for the wedding. With both her exes in the picture, an adventure of a lifetime awaits Risa. Or so you’d imagine. I, for one, have barely seen any Thai media, but this movie is quite boring with its predictable Bollywood plotlines and slapstick comedy...

In 2004, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” became the film with joint-most Oscar wins of all time with a whopping 11 victories, matching the total tallies of both “Titanic” and “Ben-Hur.” Those 11 Academy Awards capped off a hugely successful trilogy of movies that collectively snagged 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins in total. But yet… Peter Jackson‘s film series, adapted from the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, is so, so good that, well, it could have won more. That sounds greedy and over the top, of course, but if you take a look at each film’s nominations, it’s actually very feasible that any one of the three films could have turned the bid into a win. So, with that in mind, here are five Oscar nominations that “The Lord of the Rings” films could and perhaps should have turned into victories.
