A new trailer for Final Fantasy Xiv‘s upcoming expansion Stormblood has been released, taking players on a tour of its Eastern-themed regions. Upon its original announcement at last year’s Fan Festival in Las Vegas, game director Naoki Yoshida revealed that players will be visiting two separate provinces in the add-on – Ala Mhigo and Doma – both of which are on show in this latest gameplay video.
As was the case with previous expansion Heavensward, new content will be spread across several distinct environments in Stormblood, ranging from the scorching deserts of Rhalgr’s Reach to the ornate and traditional Japanese stylings of the Kugane district. Other notable areas include The idyllic Ruby Sea, which boasts a massive body of water punctuated with small islands, and Yanxia, a rocky landscape filled with towering stone pillars and heavy mists. Take the sweeping tour for yourselves in the video above.

The second and final new job class for Final Fantasy Xiv‘s upcoming Stormblood expansion has been announced. Unveiled during last weekend’s Fan Festival in Frankfurt, Germany, game director and producer Naoki Yoshida took to the stage to showcase Samurai, a melee Dps class that utilizes the iconic warrior’s katana as its main method of attack. Like all new jobs released with 2015’s Heavensward expansion, Samurai won’t have an associated class to level, and will start at level 50, although this is, for now, a tentative jumping off point, so it’s not set in stone as of yet.
Samurai will join Red Mage – another Dps class – as Stormblood‘s complete offering of new roles to shake up party compositions, one less than the three introduced with Heavensward, a decision, Yoshida said, was made due to the huge development time it takes to create entirely new classes, with...

Final Fantasy Xiv‘s latest content patch, The Far Edge of Fate, will release January 17 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC, Square Enix has confirmed, with a new trailer having dropped today. As with all previous patches, 3.5 will introduce several new types of content, including two new dungeons, the third part of the current 24-man raid – Dun Scaith – and the final boss trial in the Warring Triad series – Zurvan, The Demon.
Not all of the new features follow the same predictable formula, however. The Diadem, an existing feature that fell out of favor with fans rather quickly, is being restructured from the ground up for the 3.5 series, with game director Naoki Yoshida hoping the new and improved version will hit a mark that the original missed the first time around.

The first of three fan festivals for Square Enix Mmo Final Fantasy Xiv has just kicked off in Las Vegas, bringing with it news for the game’s second expansion: Stormblood.
Due to release in ‘early summer’ next year, the add-on follows 2015’s Heavensward as being a substantial addition to the core experience, bringing with it new areas, classes and an increase in level cap.
As the Fan Festival is due to go on across the entire weekend, there’ll no doubt be a bunch more details to come, but here’s what we know so far.
Stormblood will mark the beginning of the Patch 4.0 series and sees the player character’s Warrior of Light travel to Ala Mhigo, a territory that’s being forcibly ruled by the Garlean Empire. Homeland of the Monks, players can expect to see the expansion carry a theme centred around the Job in much...

Final Fantasy Xiv producer Naoki Yoshida has told Game Watch (via VG247) in a recent interview that the first details for the Mmo’s second expansion will be revealed at this year’s Fan Festival in Las Vegas. Yoshida says that the event, which will be held in October, will always be the place where he and the development team “share the biggest news”, adding (when asked if they would announce a new expansion there) that:
That’s right. This is a game that is supported by many players, so we’d like to share the biggest news together with the fans at the Fan Festival meetings.
Additionally, Yoshida was quizzed on what players can expect to see for the remainder of the patch 3.0 series, which began with last year’s Heavensward expansion, and how long it will continue to receive patches.

Final Fantasy Xiv, the popular Mmo currently available on PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, could be coming to Microsoft’s Xbox One after all, despite comments made in the past by Square Enix that such a thing wasn’t possible due to the latter console not supporting cross-platform play.
But that was the past. Since the beginning of 2016, Microsoft has been championing the use of cross-platform play, announcing earlier in the year that the Xbox One was now fully capable of such things, as well as their Xbox Play Anywhere program announced at E3.
So, with the status quo now completely different to what it was two years ago, Final Fantasy Xiv director Naoki Yoshida has told Polygon in a recent interview that Microsoft actually approached the development team about the possibility of bringing the world of Eorzea to their console.
Microsoft actually approached the Final Fantasy 14 team about the cross-platform opportunity.

Crippling technical issues and a miscommunication have left Square Enix no choice but to suspend sales of Final Fantasy Xiv on Mac, with Game Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida taking responsibility for the blunder.
Launching for Mac on June 23, early adopters soon encountered an array of bugs and game-breaking glitches, despite the fact that their own hardware was on par – if not more technically capable – than the Windows client. Yoshida offered a candid explanation for the mishandling on Square’s official blog, stating that the incorrect system requirements for Mac were released amid “the chaos” leading up to Final Fantasy Xiv‘s maiden expansion pack, Heavensward.
Here’s what Yoshida had to say in an open message to fans.

Square Enix has detailed the contents of Final Fantasy Xiv‘s maiden expansion pack, Heavensward, which is due to weave its way into the widely-popular Mmo in the beginning of 2015.
Announced during the title’s third and final fan festival in Tokyo, game director Naoki Yoshida took to the stage to confirm that the hefty Dlc will introduce a sixth playable race in the Au Ra, along with two new-fangled jobs and a new flying mount.
Specifically, those two means of employment will be the Machinist (a range-based class wielding a rather badass gun), and the Astrologian (a healer-based class with a knack of casting spells). Not only that, Heavensward will also herald a new high-end raid that will please long-time fans of the series. It’s understood that the mission will become available after completing the expansion’s main scenario, and will pit players against Alexander — a mechanical goliath...

Clarifying something which we originally reported on back in December, Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on April 14th. Director Naoki Yoshida revealed the news today, as well as the fact that pre-orders for the title can now be placed.
Those looking to experience the Mmo on the PlayStation 4 will not have to wait long though, as Square Enix re-confirmed that the beta for Final Fantasy Xiv will begin on February 22. Those that already own the PlayStation 3 version of the game will also be able to take part in this beta for no additional cost.
In addition to the release date news, Yoshida also revealed that a special collector’s edition of the game will be made available and will contain all of the collectibles that came with the previously released special editions for PC and PlayStation 3, as well...

If world immersion is your biggest sticking point when gaming, oftentimes a good Mmorpg can be the best possible stopgap – and one that you’ll find yourself playing months and even years after your initial purchase. Before Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn, I hadn’t been properly hooked on an Mmo since trying World of Warcraft nearly eight years ago, and despite my love for Square Enix’s latest I could never get it to run smoothly on my antiquated not-even-gaming laptop. Sure there’s the PS3 version, but why buy that amidst rumors of a superior PS4 entry just around the bend? Lucky for me (and thousands of others, no doubt), Square Enix has revealed that the successfully revived Mmo will hit the PlayStation 4 this April, with a beta beginning February 22nd.

Game director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn won’t be released for the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, due to Microsoft’s restrictive policies that prohibit cross-platform gaming. The game will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. All versions will be linked to the same servers.
“The main reason from our side is that I don’t want the community to be divided; to be split into two or more. For example, one player might be on the PC version, another might be on the PS4 version, and I’m playing the Xbox version – but we’re not able to join the same game servers. That is just… I just don’t like the idea. I disagree with it,” Yoshida told RPGSite.

"Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn" isn't coming to the Xbox 360 (or, presumably, the Xbox One). According to director Naoki Yoshida, that's because Microsoft's online policies are too restrictive, especially when it comes to cross-platform play.
As far back as 2010, Hiromichi Tanaka -- producer on the original "Final Fantasy Xiv," before it was relaunched as "A Realm Reborn" -- was telling media outlets that Microsoft's policies for Xbox Live were a sticking point, despite the publisher having made an exception for "Final Fantasy XI," in which Xbox 360 and PC users are free to play on the same servers.
Microsoft aren't playing ball this time around, though. "The policy has not changed on Microsoft's side [since 2010]," Yoshida told RPG Site in a recent interview.
"The main reason from our side is that I don't want the community to be divided, to be split into two or more," he elaborated.

Square Enix were nice enough to offer up a downloadable benchmark test for the troubled “Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn” late last week, which doubles as a trailer for today’s launch of the troubled Mmo’s closed beta.
Square recommends installing the test, even if you’ve already looked at the purported minimum system requirements: “Depending on your system’s resident software and hardware, it is possible that ‘Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn’ may not run optimally, even if your computer meets the minimum system requirements.” Detailed instructions on how the benchmark works can be found on Square Enix’ website.
The test is actually an elaborate cutscene of spliced-together real-time footage. Those PlayStation 3 players hoping to get an extra peek at “A Realm Reborn” can watch the trailer above, which showcases off a few different areas and a fair bit of large-scale combat against...

To say "Final Fantasy Xiv" had a less than stellar launch would be understatement, but Square Enix aims to fix that, and hopefully regain some fans, with a massive redo. "Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn" gives the game a complete overhaul, and the team recently shared some screens introducing us to the reborn playable races.
Though customization options will be limited, Square says that all of the game's races will be playable during the first phase of the beta when it finally launches. “We're putting a lot of work into various options such as hair styles and colors (a whopping 192 shades are being planned!) based on feedback from the alpha test, and everything should be ready by phase three,” said producer Naoki Yoshida.

After Final Fantasy Xiv's poor critical and consumer reception, Square Enix is prepped to release a redesigned sequel in hopes of addressing the long list of complaints gamers had for the original. Growing up, Final Fantasy was the definition of RPG for me. Let's just hope Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn can hold it's own against all the other Mmo choices we have these days.
"Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy Xiv: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy Xiv, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series. I hope you're looking forward to it!" said Naoki Yoshida, producer/director of Final Fantasy Xiv.

Final Fantasy Xiv may release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation Vita in the future, according to Square Enix. The title's new producer and director Naoki Yoshida explained that new systems were a possibility for the massively multiplayer role-playing game. "Of course, because the game is developed on the PC, moving it to the Xbox 360 platform wouldn't be that difficult," Yoshida told RPG Site. "But as we said before, the thing we have to get done first is getting that PS3 version done. Once that's done, we can take the next step from there." Yoshida added: "We are continuing our talks with Microsoft, but then you think, maybe next year Microsoft might be announcing their next hardware, and so our decision is, do we wait for that next hardware? So we're going to wait and see what's happening after we delivered what we've promised." (more)...
