[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Tomb Raider.”]
Another day, another reboot. This time, it’s Lara Croft, the video game adventuress and raider of tombs first personified on the big screen by Angelina Jolie, who gets a fresh start with Alicia Vikander taking over the titular role. The new “Tomb Raider” film draws heavily from the 2013 video game reboot, and fans of “Tomb Raider” and its sequel, “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” will be pleasantly surprised at how many details actually make it into the film.
Unlike her predecessor, Vikander sports Lara’s updated look: a gray tank top and cargo pants. She also arms herself with a bow and a quiver filled with arrows, as well as a red grappling hook, all weapons which Lara uses in the video games. The plot is also pretty similar to the events of the 2013 game, with Lara fighting her way off of the mysterious and isolated island of Yamatai.

You might be under the impression that Tomb Raider will tell Lara Croft’s rebooted origin story, but we now know that there is another origin story that takes place before the one in Crystal Dynamics’ game. Square Enix has announced that Dark Horse Comics will release a new comic book series — written by the lead game writer Rhianna Pratchett — following the release of Tomb Raider this March, that will act as a prequel to the events in the game.
Tomb Raider: The Beginning is a 48-page, six-part hardcover comic book series that covers all the events leading up to the shipwreck of the Endurance at the start of Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming game. We are assuming this means that it will start with Lara’s birth, followed by a bit from of her childhood where she learned to dual wield Nerf Guns, and then wraps up with her packing...

In a way, it's a prequel to the prequel, with the 48-page, six-part hardcover from Dark Horse taking a look at the doomed crew of The Endurance.
Written by "Tomb Raider" lead writer Rhianna Pratchett, this sounds like the kind of thing that might only be of interest to the "Tomb Raider" faithful, shunting heroine Lara Croft aside for a story about how the story got started. Lara's in the book, but according to the synopsis, she's not really the focus of the story (which seems weird for a reboot that's all about exploring the character's origins).
From the official synopsis:
“Tomb Raider: The Beginning” follows the story of how the crew came together for The Endurance's fateful mission to discover the lost Japanese kingdom of Yamatai. Originally intended to feature as the latest installment of Dr. James Whitman's successful archaeology show, Whitman's World, the show-biz archaeologist gets more...

This new Tomb Raider game is pretty exciting. The trailer for it blew me away and got me crazy excited about jumping back in the world of Lara Croft, something I haven't been excited about since the late 90's early 2000. The new game looks incredible. It's basically a reboot of the franchise, and we get to see Croft in her early days as the adventurous explorer. Here we have a awesome collection of screenshot from the game for you to check out that show off some of the great detail.
Wahtch the Gameplay demo here and the cinematic trailer here.
Here's the Synopsis:
Fresh from academy and in search of lost relics, a 21-year-old Lara Croft journeys to an island off the coast of Japan aboard the Endurance, a salvage vessel helmed by Captain Conrad Roth. Before anchoring at bay, the ship is cleaved in two by an unforeseen storm...

Last week Square Enix released an incredible cinematic trailer for their new Tomb Raider game, which got me really excited about the game. Today at E3 Crystal Dynamics revealed an awesome gameplay demo, showing off what it is going to actually be like when we are playing the game, and it looks pretty damn entertaining. I love how gritty and dark this new Tomb Raider game looks, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
The game is a reboot of the franchise that focuses on a reconstructed origin of the culturally influential lead character Lara Croft. Croft is just starting her adventurous career in this new game, and we see a side of her we've never really seen before.

Square Enix has released the cinematic trailer for the new Tomb Raider game they are developing, and Lara Croft has never looked so damn good. This cinematic trailer is awesome, and the game looks like it's going to be incredible. I haven't been so excited to play a Tomb Raider game since the late 90's.

We still know very, very little about Crystal Dynamics' upcoming "Tomb Raider" reboot – or prequel, depending on how you look at it. We know the game takes place before the original 1996 title, and you're placed in the role of a still relatively inexperienced, 21-year old Lara Croft. Now, mere days before we're undoubtedly given quite a bit more information about the game, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have released a premiere trailer that looks amazing, even if it's completely devoid of gameplay.
Check out the all-new trailer after the jump.
So, what does this trailer tell us? Well, not much unfortunately. Earlier this year, we showed you some of the "Tomb Raider" screenshots given to Game Informer. The majority of the pictures showed Lara beaten and bloody, walking through some kind of wreckage. Well, now we at least have a little insight into how Lara got into this situation. Hitching...

Gk Films, the company behind movies like Traffic, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and The Aviator has acquired the rights to the Tomb Raider franchise. Angelina Jolie brought iconic video game character Lara Croft to life in two previous films – Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001 and Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life in 2003 – but don’t expect her to reprise her role this time around.
Taking a cue from the recently-announced upcoming game in the series, Gk Films intends on rebooting the franchise and will potentially use that game’s storyline to give Lara Croft a fresh start, concentrating on her origins. Here’s the plot summary for the game, which is titled simply “Tomb Raider”:
