- Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a few months before the 1988 Winter Olympics, which featured the inaugural Jamaican bobsled team whose story served as the basis for Cool Runnings.
- Wrote the feature screenplay "Steps" when he was 17.
- Wrote first theatrical play, "Douglas and Wallace," when he was 15. The play was eventually chosen as one of five to be work-shopped and performed in stage readings at the prestigious Alley Theatre's Houston Young Playwrights Exchange (HYPE). The following year, he became the first writer to be selected twice, when his follow-up, "The Eddy," was also chosen.
- Attended the film program of the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University from 2005 to 2009. Wrote and/or directed short films including "Silence," "The Off Button," "Trivial Pursuits," "Assert Man," "Paulus, Social Disgrace," "La vie americaine," "Stars of the Future," "Jeanne & Jean-Paul," and "I/LOVE/YOU".
- Moved to Los Angeles, California in summer 2012.
