A little over a year after he left ICM to join UTA as an agent in the TV Talent department, Mike Jelline has been promoted to co-head of the department. Jelline, who is based in Los Angeles, will co-run UTA‘s TV Talent department with current co-head Nancy Gates, who is based in the agency’s New York office. Mark Subias, one of the New York theatre community’s top literary representatives, has joined United Talent Agency as an agent in its New York office. Subias will focus on expanding UTA’s NYC theatre department while also representing clients across film and television. Subias is returning to being an agent and leaving his NYC-based management firm Subias which he formed in 2004. Before that Subias was a New York theatre agent at the William Morris Agency which he joined in 1999, working for then-William Morris theatre agent George Lane. A prominent figure in the theatre community, Subias is also a regular guest lecturer at Yale School of Drama and other theatre programs. Longtime UTA talent agents Ruthanne Secunda and Nancy Gates have been promoted to the newly created position of co-heads of television talent.
The two will oversee day-to-day operations of UTA's TV talent division, which has more than 100 actors working on broadcast and cable, and will continue to operate as part of the agency's talent department.
"Ruthanne and Nancy are respected throughout the industry for their outstanding taste in both talent and material, and their ability to propel artists to the tops of their craft," said talent department co-head and board member Tracey Jacobs.
Secunda began her agent career at Abrams Artists where she launched and ran the agency's comedy division. After a brief stint as a talent manager at 3 Arts Entertainment, she joined UTA in 1996 as a TV talent agent.
Gates began her entertainment career in 1996 in UTA's agent training program. She earned her agent stripes two years later.
UTA's roster of TV talent includes William Petersen, Patrick Dempsey, Jimmy Smits, Kate Walsh, Anna Friel, Zach Quinto and Sarah Chalke.
