Exclusive: New Yorker video producer Christopher Hwisu Kim is heading to the Sundance Film Festival this week as an all-expenses paid guest of The Black List and Cassian Elwes.
“It’s an immense honor to be the recipient of the Cassian Elwes Independent Screenwriting Fellowship, especially because E.S.L. is a deeply personal story centered on a family that looks and sounds like mine,” the Brooklyn-based filmmaker told Deadline. “It’s long been a dream of mine to add to the rich but underappreciated legacy of Asian American filmmakers—and now, thanks to Mr. Elwes and The Black List, that dream feels more possible than ever before,” Kim added.
Submitted late last year for consideration for the 10th consecutive fellowship program, Kim’s E.S.L. feature script tells the tale of a Korean-American woman in a hurry to relearn the language of the peninsula in an effort to...

This year, Tfi Network, presented by AT&T, will move online from April 27 through May 1. Prior to Tfi Network, filmmakers will attend “Prep Week” from April 21 through April 23, which includes online pitch training sessions with mentors. This year’s 43 winners include scripted projects, documentaries and interactive projects.

Chicago – In one of the more intriguing “happenings” in the Chicago scene, the husband and wife team of Rebecca Fons and Jack C. Newell are hosting “Destroy Your Art” in Chicago, on August 25th, 2017, at Lost Arts in the Goose Island neighborhood (details below). The evening promises a one-of-a-kind event.
“Destroy Your Art” will feature five filmmakers – Nick Alonzo, Shayna Connelly, Lonnie Edwards, Matt Hyland and Aemilia Scott – as they show their seven minute or less short films. After that One Showing, the films will be destroyed forever, never to be seen again. The concept challenges the notions of permanency, images, expression and our perception of what time means. Audience participants, and the filmmakers themselves, will be the only witnesses to the final products, before they are gone forever.
