Jimmy Hinson, also known as Big Giant Circles (BGC), is a music composer and producer. He has worked primarily in the video game industry since 2008, originally as an arranger for Capcom's Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix remake, and later hired by Jack Wall to co-compose the score of BioWare's blockbuster sci-fi epic sequel Mass Effect 2 along with returning co-composers Sam Hulick and David Kates. Prior to composing music as a career, Hinson served as a staff member to video game music fan arrangement site OverClocked ReMix (ocremix.org), which both fueled his passion for game audio and provided an outlet to hone his skills in modern music production as he created fan arrangements of various classic video game themes. The score for Mass Effect 2 received several nominations including the BAFTA 2011 Awards for Best Original Music. After working under Jack Wall again on Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Image-Line software appointed Hinson as an official FL Studio "Power User" along with names like BT, Mick Gordon, Deadmau5, and Justin Lassen.
Hinson has contributed to a variety of independent and mobile games as well, having composed music for the game Threes! which became Apples 2014 Game of the Year. In 2014 Hinson released an album of original "chiptune-inspired" music, drawing inspiration from classic 8-bit NES and Gameboy soundtracks. The album was completed and Kickstarted in October of 2013 where it raised 1200% of its original funding goal and at the time became one of the top 100 most successful music projects to be crowd-funded on the site. In 2017 Hinson had music previously written for indie game There Came An Echo licensed and featured in the Netflix acclaimed series Stranger Things. Hinson continues to write music for video games in addition to original music under his Big Giant Circles project. In 2020, he released his single "Recovery" through the electronic music label Ninety9Lives. In addition to composing and producing, he has performed music live at events like Twitchcon and Extra Life United. He resides in the Dallas, TX area.
