You mean I was just dreaming? Oh, dang.
And I'm waking up to a two-hour American Idol episode featuring the Hollywood group round? Dang.
Thankfully we didn't have a Mary Powers. (Heaven knows we don't need one right now.) Unfortunately we have Clint Jun Gamboa, who I dislike as much as James Durbin now. More unfortunately, all I can do is watch and write about it.

Alex Lambert kind of freaks us out a little, purely because he looks so much like Mrs Brady (check out the mullet in her picture too!). Before he goes too much further, he really needs to Cut That Hair.
On last night’s American Idol Alex sang ‘Wonderful World’ by James Morrison for the judges. He was definitely one of the best vocalists of the night and probably hit less flat notes than the majority of the other contestants. We liked his performance and his tone and think that with a little more confidence and stage presence he could be a real contender, he just needs to get past those nerves!
Simon Cowell thought that Alex lacked charisma and said:
“I don’t know who was more happy for that to end, you or me. That was the most uncomfortable performance of the night. You have a good voice, a naturally good voice,...

Casey James emerges as one of only standouts during the boys' first performance night.

Casey James on "American Idol" Wednesday

After a number of uneven, forgettable performances by the top 12 ladies Tuesday night, it was starting to feel like Simon Cowell's prediction that a female would win this year's "American Idol" was a bit premature. And then the men took the stage Wednesday night (February 24), and for most of the two hours, well, they seemed determined to prove Simon right.
From poor song choices to shaky vocals and clear nerves, one by one, the guys got hammered by the judges, with even front-runner Andrew Garcia drawing some fire for his somber Fall Out Boy cover as pinup cowboy Casey James appeared to slip into the pole position with his mix of good looks and strong vocals.

After six weeks of caterwauling, pants-on-the-grounding, and Mary Powers-ing, American Idol has announced the 24 semifinalists of season 9. Yes, Idoloonies, the power to name Kelly Clarkson 9.0 rests in your extremely capable hands. Before you pick up the phone to speed-dial, however, (and keeping in mind you can't do that before 10 p.m. Et on Tuesday anyhow), why not press play below and check out this week's Idolatry? My cohost Kristen Baldwin and I talk about that time Kara DioGuardi played horrible musical chairs with Angela Martin, we get the first official word on season 9 from Baby Baldwin, and there's even...

I'd like to start this "American Idol" recap with a new game that I like to call "Porn Dialogue or 'Idol' Conversation?"
Man: Fancy seeing you here.
Woman: I like that word fancy. Fancy. You're very '70s. I like that about you. What is it with the '70s and you?
Man: All my idols are from the '60s and '70s. You know, Robert Plant, Roger Daltry, Morrison.
Woman: Did you get some of your moves from them? Where do you get those moves?
Man: I actually have a lot of rock DVDs and I watch a lot of old concerts.
Woman: Do you think you'll bring some of those moves if you stay?
Man: Whatever kind of moves you want, I'll give you.
Woman: Really? I think we wanna see those moves again, and you're gonna go through.
That was an exchange between Kara DioGuardi...

"American Idol's" Hollywood Week has concluded and judges Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara Dioguardi and Randy Jackson have sealed the fate of Season 9's hopefuls.
The Top 24 has been chosen and this year's male dozen and female dozen of contenders are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime. So besides revealing the list of this year's soon-to-be-household names what else do we know so far:
1. Ellen DeGeneres is just the shot in the arm that the show needed. Now we've been on Team Ellen since her ABC sitcom, but some "Idol" watchers and aficionados wondered if DeGeneres had the judging chops to hold her own against the big bad Cowell. Well so far Ellen's exceeded expectations, demonstrating herself as both a competent opponent and colleague alongside Cowell at the judges table. Ellen and Simon's chemistry is palpable and it's clear the daytime talk show queen is...

Well, my fellow "American Idol" fans, after tonight, the final 24 is On.
momlogic's Vivian: Last night, the judges were charged with slicing and dicing 47 contestants off the "AI" roster, and there was a lot of "mom talk" in the process. One of the single moms we've been following made it through the round of cuts, but the other -- much to my surprise -- didn't.
Here's the blow-by-blow:
For the first round of eliminations, each of the 71 contestants was given the opportunity to perform for the judges with a full band. We saw snippets of these song stylings in flashback after the contestants were divided into three groups and herded into three rooms to wait out the verdict.
Single mom Crystal Bowersox slung her acoustic guitar over her shoulder and tooted a decent harmonica while giving a rootsy, earnest performance of one Sheryl Crow's best songs, "If It Makes You Happy.

Andrew Garcia
While Garcia's story about his parents' gangbanger past and trying to make a better life for his kid earned him some audition-round screen time, his Hollywood Week performances are what set him apart from the pack. His acoustic reworkings of female-fronted songs — Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" and Adele's "Chasing Pavements" — earned him a ride to the top 24.

Breaking off from the tradition, "American Idol" announced seven out of the Top 24 finalists early. Those who made it among others are Casey James, the Texan who took off his shirt before the judges, and Michael "Big Mike" Lynche whose admittance to the final round was already spilled by his father to a local paper.
Casey and Big Mike are joined by Didi Benami, 23, of Los Angeles; Lee Dewyze, 23, Mount Prospect, Ill.; Katelyn Epperly, 19, West Des Moines, Iowa; Aaron Kelly, 16, Sonestown, Pa. and Todrick Hall, 24, Arlington, Texas. These bunch of people stood out among the 71 contestants who made it in the group round last week. They advanced from Top 46 to Top 24.

Tens of thousands of potential "American Idol" winners became 181 Hollywood Week hopefuls who were then considered, criticized and often condemned until 71 singers gained passage to the next round at Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre. Tuesday night's (February 16) show saw that number winnowed once again as the first crooners of the top 24 were announced by Simon Cowell and his fellow "Idol" judges.
Early notable contestants Casey James (he of the shirtless Denver audition), Michael "Big Mike" Lynche (the hulking guy who skipped the birth of his child in favor of a stay at Hollywood Week) and Didi Benami (who sang Sarah McLachlan's "Angel" in memory of her deceased best friend) all made the top 24. Joining them were dancer-turned-singer Todrick Hall, curly-haired Duffy-ite Katelyn Epperly, high-schooler Aaron Kelly and singer-songwriter Lee Dewyze.

The Dreamers started off as a threesome, but Hope Johnson and Erin Hundley forced themselves upon the team and soon three became five.
The new lineup led to some tension between the two alpha females Mary Powers and Hope Johnson and the pressure really got to Mary, who even fought with the vocal coach and yelled at Alex.
In the end, the discord came through in their performance, and only three of the five made it through: Powers, Johnson and Alex Lambert.

Hollywood Week(s) continued on "American Idol" on Wednesday night (February 10). Ryan Seacrest apparently calls this portion of the program "Hell Week." This just in: "American Idol" is now taking cues from sororities! I can't wait until next week's episode, when all the contestants lay naked on the floor while Kara DioGuardi circles body fat with a Sharpie.
Wednesday night was the dreaded "Group Night," where, like every other season, the remaining 96 hopefuls broke off into small groups, took over hallways and lobbies of a hotel in California and sang Motown tunes into half-empty water bottles all through the night. (Seriously, I hope "Idol" buys out that entire hotel. Imagine the phone calls the front desk guy must get at four in the morning: "They're still singing 'Get Ready' in the hallway!" This week on "American Idol", 96 people were slimmed down to 71 in the second Hollywood round. These singer wannabes were grouped in three, four or five and they had to harmonize as well as choreograph a move. Elimination however, is based on individual performance.
First one to come up on stage was Faith, consisting of Charity Vance, Michelle Delamour, and Nicole Rodriguez. They sang Beyonce Knowles' "Irreplaceable" and they all went through. Next was Team Awesome which grouped Michael Lynche, Tim Urban, Michael Castro and Seth Rollins. Unlike Faith, this lots got split into half with Michael and Tim advancing.
Neapolitan got into trouble but not from the judges. They (Liz Rooney, Thaddeus Johnson and Jessica Cunningham and another girl) double crossed another group Destiny's Wild by ripping off the idea of doing an a capella of Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance". Despite it all, all four of them made it.

A total of 95 people successfully went through in the first Hollywood Round on "American Idol". On Tuesday, February 9 night Ellen DeGeneres made her debut selecting those whom Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson and celebrity guest judges gave a second chance at the audition tour.
The 95 people chosen to enter the group round were selected from 181 hopefuls. They were grouped into eight and they got to choose to bring instrument or a capella. This bunch included Andrew Garcia, a father who wants to make a change for his son. Garcia brought a rendition of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" with his guitar and amazed everybody in the theater. Kara called it "genius", saying that Paula would be clapping and shouting when she heard that rendition. He went through along with worship pastor Tasha Leighton.
The fallen ones included Vanessa Wolfe who butchered her rendition of "No Rain" because she could not control her nerve.
