He is the official Schenectady County Historian, responsible for providing guidance and support to municipal historians and serving as a conduit between the State Historian in Albany and the local historians in their counties. He is also the Schenectady City Historian and was the Albany City Archeologist (1973-79). - Suggested the name "Corlear" for fictional city in Winter of Frozen Dreams. The actual spelling "Corlaer" was the 18th century name for Schenectady where the movie was entirely filmed. Corlaer was an honorary title that Native Americans gave the governors of New York State during the 18th century as an honor of respect, named for Arendt Van Curler, founder of Schenectady in 1661 and friend to the Natives in all negotiations among the Dutch, French and English.
