When broadcast networks preempt primetime programming for the midterms Tuesday, they will be joining up with their streaming channels, all of which will have been well into their daylong coverage of the vote.

Lillia Luciano, an investigative reporter and documentary filmmaker, has been named a correspondent for CBS News based in Los Angeles.
Luciano joined the network in March, 2020 as a freelance correspondent, and has covered major stories on the West Coast including the Covid-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, immigration issues at the border and wildfires in Oregon and California.

A third person involved with a misleadingly edited recording of George Zimmerman’s 911 call to police in the Trayvon Martin case is no longer employed by NBC News. TV Newser reported today that Luciano was dismissed after an investigation that also led to the firing of a still-unidentified Miami-based NBC News producer. In a segment for the Today show on March 22, the New York Times reported today, Lilia Luciano used the misleadingly edited version of Zimmerman’s 911 call that had been broadcast previously on Miami NBC affiliate Wtvj. In a cascading repetition, yet another correspondent, Ron Allen, used the misleading audio in another story a few days later. Luciano is the third journalist to have lost their job over this story. A scandal at NBC News over the multiple airings of deceptively edited audio from a 911 call placed by George Zimmerman the night he killed Trayvon Martin has cost a third journalist her job, an NBC insider confirmed Thursday. The fired NBC reporter was identified as Lilia Luciano, a national correspondent for the Today show, Nightly News with Brian Williams and MSNBC who joined the network 18 months ago from Univision. Last week, we reported that NBC Miami reporter Jeff Burnside became the second NBC producer to be fired over a misleading edit to Trayvon Martin killer George Zimmerman's 911 call that made it into several Today Show broadcasts. According to TV Newser, the internal NBC News investigation that resultd in Burnside's dismissal also uncovered another edited Zimmerman tape, which hs resulted in the firing of Miami-based correspondent Lilia Luciano from the network.
