- Pooja Kohli has 20+ years' experience in content acquisitions with a specific focus on creative development, media production/operations across NA, UK, and India. Since 2010 she also dons the hat of a producer and has taken this role one step forward with the launch of Golden Karavan, an Asian focused television mini major. With a full development slate, the company will supply compelling content from the region for a straight-to-digital release on premium global streaming platform's and broadcasters across the world. Golden Karavan was formed with the following 6 partners, Florence Sloan, Jeff Sagansky, Aaron Kaplan, Sanjay Bachani, Apoorva Bakshi and Pooja Kohli.
Their first project, Delhi Crime, written and directed by Richie Mehta, starring Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang, the series is set in the aftermath of the 2012 Delhi gang rape. Its first two episodes were premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category. The series was released on Netflix on 22 March 2019. The show was renewed for a second season with the main cast returning. On November 23, 2020 Delhi Crime won the Best Drama Series at the 48th International Emmy Awards. This is the first win for India.
FilmKaravan's first feature, Megha Ramaswamy's, What are the Odds, co-produced with Abhay Deol. Starring Abhay Deol, Yashaswini Dayama, Karanvir Malhotra, Priyanka Bose and Monica Dogra the film tells the story of two unintentional teenage friends who end-up spending an entire day together. The film premiered at the closing night gala for the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in 2019, and was released on Netflix on 20 May 2020 to rave reviews.
Previously she executive produced two short films for writer, director Payal Sethi. Grant St. Shaving Co. (2010) that won numerous awards at film festivals and Leeches (2017) that won the National Award from India for best Music.
Pooja, along with her business partner, Sanjay Bachani, also serves as Managing Director and CEO of FilmKaravan, a streamlined aggregation & delivery solution house that aggregates, encodes, packages and delivers high quality content across digital platforms like iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Netflix, Tatasky, Mubi, Facebook, etc. FilmKaravan's partners include studios like Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Excel Entertainment, Arka Productions and Salman Khan Films among others.
After graduating with a Business Degree from Delhi University, she produced and directed thirteen documentaries for I.R.I.B. (Iran TV) on Shia Muslims in India. She then did her Masters in Film from Emerson College in Boston. Upon graduation, she joined the Independent Feature Project, to run the IFP Market, as the Managing Director.
