The L.A. Complex
It’s great to see gay persons of color on television. So kudos to L.A. Complex for bringing us something other than squeaky clean white teenage boys struggling with their sexuality. Tariq and Kal really have chemistry and they mesh well together. But it was pretty clear from the start that all of Tariq’s posturing is because he was hiding his sexuality. It’s obvious that the reason why he’s not performing anymore is because he’s gay and can’t relate to many of the tropes that make up rap music.
I have to say though that it all happened kind of fast between these two characters. They went from first meeting each other to sleeping together in the span of a few hours. Yes, that happens in real life, but given their situation both personally and professionally,...

Emmerdale – What Do You Mean You’re Not Over Him Yet?
Has it really been three months since Jackson died? My, how time flies. And to the chagrin of a lot of fans, Aaron is still deeply grieving his boyfriend, even though it's very plausible and realistic. Many of them are ready for Aaron to move on and find a new boyfriend. If this were another soap, I would expect Aaron to already be in love again with someone new, as many shows tend zip through the grieving process.
But not only does Emmerdale move at a slow pace, it’s one of the more realistic soaps out there. I wouldn’t expect Aaron to have moved on so quickly, though I hope someday he does. Part of me fears Aaron will never have another serious boyfriend. Though I hope I’m wrong about that.

The Dutch public broadcasters Vara and Kro are organizing a theme-night about homosexuality on August 4. One of the guests that night will be Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden actor Ferry Doedens. He plays gay character Lucas Sanders on Gtst. This season his character found love with Edwin Bouwhuis (played by Raynor Arkenbout). After their first love scene there was a lot of commotion on social media like Twitter. According to the Coc, the largest Dutch gay rights organization (and one of the oldest in the world), Gtst is providing an important contribution to the equality of Dutch Lgbt's by respectfully and carefully treating the subject. Doedens will talk about this to hosts Claudia de Breij and Arie Boomsma.
Doedens will also talk about a gay woman who's being bullied out of her neighborhood in Amsterdam.
Other guests on Flikker Op! are: brain researcher Dick Swaab, geneticist Sven Bocklandt, director Tim Oliehoek,...

On Friday, July 8 the season finale of Gtst (Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden) aired on RTL4. In the episode Rikki (Robin Martens), Lucas (Ferry Doedens), Sjoerd (Guido Spek) and Edwin (Raynor Arkenbout) performed a song at Nina (Marly van der Velden) and Noud's (Ruud Feltkamp) wedding. The show decided to release the song after receiving a lot of reactions from viewers who wanted to download the song. On Thursday morning 'Jij' ('You') was in third place in the iTunes download top 200.

Get off the cross, honey, someone else needs the wood. Please, I just shake my head at all the overwrought angst Olli is putting himself through over Philippe’s accident, which everyone seems to agree was not Olli’s fault. Even looking at it logically, he is clearly not to blame and his beating himself up makes little sense. It is all just faux drama. And not very good drama at that. I don’t know why the show is tossing in this extraneous nonsense when Christian and Olli already have plenty of very real problems to deal with. Working on repairing their marriage should be plenty of fodder for drama and conflict.
It's pretty clear that Olli is headed down a dark path, but I think the destruction of his marriage would be enough reason for him to unravel. They didn’t need to add this. And please,...

It’s love (I guess) for Edwin and Lucas…
Hi and welcome to our look at the latest happenings on Dutch soap Good Times, Bad Times. Regular followers of Gays Of Our Lives know that I’ve long had a love-hate relationship with this glossy soap opera, praising it for introducing out and proud gay character Lucas Sanders, but deriding it for not coming forth and providing Lucas a viable love interest-- not to mention some lousy storytelling.
But after teasing viewers with two straight guys and a boyfriend who turned out to be a serial killer, the show finally gave Lucas a real boyfriend in the form of cutie-pie Edwin Bouwhuis.
As in every TV coming out drama, Edwin denied he was gay….
When Lucas and Edwin first met, Lucas was certain that Edwin was gay and brazenly went after him. After a few breakfast meetings, Lucas declared Edwin the love of his life.
