Feature documentary The Outsider from Abramorama will become Facebook’s first paid online movie premiere by a major distributor today when the social media giant releases it at 8 pm Et with a ticket price of $3.99.
Facebook’s global users will have a 48-hour window to watch the debut of the film – directed and produced by Pamela Yoder and Steven Rosenbaum — followed by a panel discussion. It will be available to exhibitors tomorrow, August 20, and via Tvod (transactional video on demand) through Giant Pictures in September ahead the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
According to event’s Fb site, 2.9K are “interested” and 179 are “going.” Live paid online event attendance changes most frequently just prior to the event. “We have no idea what to expect, as this is the first time ever that anyone has done this,” Abramorama COO and partner Karol Martesko-Fenster tells Deadline.

Former MasterChef Australia contestants are coming together to raise money for charity. Series one winner Julie Goodwin and series two hopeful Marion Grasby will be among the show's past contestants serving dishes at a pop-up restaurant in Sydney this summer. Celebrity chefs including Kylie Kwong will also cook at the purpose-built restaurant, which will open on July 3 in the forecourt of St Mary's Cathedral. David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff will be a contestant in this season’s Celebrity Apprentice it has been officially announced today.
The show, which starts to filming today for Nine, has struggled to keep the former Baywatch singer a secret but confirmed the coup via the Daily Telegraph, who announced the full line up this morning.
Joining Hasselhoff is Afl player Jason Akermanis, TV presenter Charlotte Dawson, waterskier and boxer Lauryn Eagle, comedians Vince Sorrenti and Fiona O’Loughlin, Dancing with the Stars’ Patti Newton, Bollywood actress Tania Zaetta, Masterchef’s Marion Grasby, the Amazing Race’s Nathan Jolliffe, Getaway host Ben Dark and former Can of Worms host and still executive producer Ian “Dicko” Dickson.
Mark Bouris founder and chairman of Wizard Home Loans will remain the boss. The series will air later this year.
Last year comedian Julia Morris won the first series.

Patti Newton has joined the Australian version of Celebrity Apprentice, according to reports. The 66-year-old television personality, who is married to veteran TV presenter Bert, is believed to have arrived in Sydney to start filming the Channel Nine reality show today (January 16) alongside host and chairman Mark Bouris. Marion Grasby has spoken out about MasterChef's recent cheating scandal. It was reported yesterday that top 18 contestant Mat Beyer was axed from the show after being found with a banned smartphone that he was allegedly using to look up recipes. Grasby, who took part in last year's season of the Australian reality cooking contest, said that the show's bosses are very strict about "contraband" materials in the house and that if Beyer did have a phone, he would have breached "every rule" in the competition. Marion Grasby has warned contestants on the Australian version of MasterChef to avoid online forums. The former contestant, who came ninth in last year's series of the reality television cooking show despite being the bookie's favourite, said that she has been abused by various members of public when using them.
