In 2010, a 23-year-old fashion designer named Andy South competed on Project Runway‘s eighth season and sparred against some wild competition: the histrionic Michael Costello, the deadpan hero Mondo Guerra, the unwaveringly self-assured Gretchen Jones (who won the season, outraging many devoted fans), and the sweet but bizarre Casanova. Now, the studious and methodical South is back as more confident alum for Project Runway All-Stars 3, which premieres tonight, but with a brand new life in tow.
Since South’s last appearance on Lifetime’s reality competition staple, the designer has completed a gender transition. Now, the Waianae, Hi native is a woman known by the name Ari South — a name picked out by Ari’s mother. We caught up with South to discuss pleasing a whole new panel of judges (including host Alyssa Milano), the story behind her new name, and how her personal transformation has affected her work.

Now that we're headlong into an enjoyable season of Project Runway, it's time to play my favorite game: Ranking Years of Hotties. Heidi Klum's sartorial showdown may be a much different show now than when it premiered in 2004 (!), but the series' consistently hot male contestants remain a hallmark. Compare your listings with mine, gents.
10. Wesley Nault
His stay on season five was short-lived (only two episodes), but the unassumingly chic Wesley Nault left a favorable impression using two key items: 1) his underrated tablecloth/cups ensemble from the season-opening Gristedes challenge, and 2) his passion for wearing little shorts. Look at them. They are the littlest. And he is leggier than Juliet Prowse, thank God. After the show, he enjoyed a personal and professional partnership with fellow season five vet Daniel Feld.
9. Jay Sario
The well-scarfed Jay Sario was adorable on season seven, and you better believe I still carry a...

The 30-year-old fashion designer from San Francisco was voted off the Lifetime competition on Thursday night's episode after producing an activewear collection for Heidi's line that was deemed "inexpensive, bland and lacking story". "It is bittersweet to get this far and then be eliminated because it was one more challenge and then Lincoln Center. I would have loved to show at that runway... so close," he said. This week's episode started with a shake-up of the designer/model pairings as Heidi told the contestants she thought they had become too comfortable with their models and needed a new challenge. The task was to design three head-to-toe looks for Heidi's new fashion activewear line and Heidi produced six existing looks from the collection to (more)...
