He taught art and judo at Cotham Grammar School during the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Achieved the rank of a black belt in judo.
A talented artist, in 1994 he was awarded the MBE and in 1997 received the Queen's Silver Jubilee Award for Painting of great British Achievement.
His involvement in the preservation and planning of the city of Bristol has made him an active and long-standing member of the Civic Society of which he has been a past Chairman.
Appointed Vice President of the The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, in 1997.
