Before Iowans even turning out to caucus on Monday night, one-time Republican front-runner Ben Carson announced that he was leaving Iowa and returning home to Florida to "get some fresh clothes." Carson's statement to reporters was seized on by at least one opponent, Ted Cruz, who told his precinct captains to inform Carson supporters that the surgeon was taking time off and to urge them to vote for Cruz instead. "After spending 18 consecutive days on the campaign trail, Dr. Carson needs to go home and get a fresh set of clothes," spokesman Larry Ross said in a statement to CNN.
