It always starts the same way. The opening few piano notes of something slow by Coldplay or Labrinth. A contestant swallows hard, then starts talking about their sick mum/child/dog. And suddenly, before Cheryl can even grab a tissue, you're sat on your sofa blubbing like a toddler.

Simon is back. Cheryl is back. Louis never went away in the first place. But who else could do an X Factor U-turn and try to rescue the show's faltering ratings?
If 2014 is going to be the year of the comeback on the ITV talent show, here are 6 more things that could potentially return to your autumn Saturday night TV schedule.
1. Gamu
Dumped by Cheryl for Katie 'sod it' Waissel in 2010, Gamu Nhengu's exit was, and always will be, a sore point for X Factor diehards. After being set up as a potential champion with her 'Walking on Sunshine' audition in the first show, there was a national outcry (well, we moaned about it a bit anyway) when she was axed. Gamu-gate and the hastag #bringbackGamu were born and we won't let them die until she gets a second chance.
2. Konnie Huq on The Xtra Factor

Amelia Lily should not have been voted off by Kelly Rowland on the first week of The X Factor, Digital Spy readers have said. More than 5,000 voted in our exclusive poll, and a whopping 58.5% said that Lily's first-week exit was worse than last year's controversial axing of Gamu Nhengu. "Based purely on last night's performances, I'd have got rid of Misha [Bryan]," said Digital Spy reader Ian Armstead. "I really didn't rate the performance at all. However, overall, I would have ditched Sophie [Habibis]. She's too dull, and I reckon Misha can do really well." Steve White agreed: "I love Sophie to bits but based solely on the weekend's performance she should have gone." It wasn't all one-way traffic though. Gamu Nhengu has claimed that her axe from The X Factor worked to her advantage. The 19-year-old Zimbabwe native, who was controversially rejected from last year's contest by Cheryl Cole, said that her career will benefit from her not going through to the ITV1 show's live rounds. "If X Factor had gone well, I'd have been more easily swayed to do other things because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do at that stage," she told the Daily Record. "I have grown up now and know exactly what I want my sound to be. If I'd gone through this with X Factor, it would probably have ended up being more diluted." She continued: "I don't regret doing the show because I learned so much from it. It's like a crash-course in what (more)...

View the original post Katie Waissel ‘can’t wait to do The X Factor tour’ on Unreality TV
Katie Waissel has admitted that despite the tough time she had on the show last year, she can’t wait to embark on the X Factor nationwide tour.
Waissel started the series on a bad foot, when she was chosen as one of Cheryl Cole’s final girls over fan favourite Gamu Nhengu. She was then branded by fellow contestants Storm Lee and Matt Cardle as a “fake” and was humiliated on a grand scale when it was revealed that her 82 year old granny is a £250 per hour prostitute.
However the 24 year old singer says that since the show ended, she has received a lot of support and can’t wait to start gigging with all her old pals.
She told Now magazine: “I’ve been gigging all over the country and the response has been wicked.

Gamu Nhengu is to release a Christmas single to go head to head with the ‘X Factor’ winner.
The Zimbabwe-born singer – who was controversially left out of the live finals stage of the ITV1 show by judge Cheryl Cole – has teamed up with her former music teacher David Clifford to record the track for Stirling-based children’s charity Aberlour.
Entitled ‘Where Will You Sleep This Christmas’, Gamu revealed she was “honoured” to be asked to appear on the single.
She explained: “From the minute I heard the song, I loved it. This is the first time I have done anything like this, so I was really honoured when Mr. Clifford asked me to record it.”
If the 18-year-old singer’s track does beat the eventual ‘X Factor’ winner’s single to the top spot, it will be the second consecutive year the talent show has missed out on scoring the Christmas number one.

Heat reports that Simon was informed of a backstage bitching session, in which Walsh slated Cole and mocked her handling of the recent Gamu Nhengu scandal.

Cheryl Cole has been singing the praises of her almost namesake Cher Lloyd, saying that the 17 year old is a ‘tough cookie’ and a ‘mini me.’
People noticed Cher’s similarity to her now mentor, from the moment she first auditioned for The X Factor, though many questioned the fact that she was chosen over Gamu Nhengu for the live shows. Speaking about her decision to back the young rapper, Cheryl told The Mirror:
I’m really proud of all me girls and I hope their performances, how well they’re all doing, have justified my decision to put them through.
Cher is like a mini-me; she’s me at 17, she really is. She’s such a strong, tough girl – she’s a tough cookie, that one. But she’s a lot more shy than people realise and you have to remember she is only 17. It’s a lot to cope with at that age.

The Girls Aloud singer was widely criticised after she rejected Zimbabwean teenager Gamu Nhengu, in favour of Cher Lloyd, Katie Waissel and Rebecca Ferguson.
Writing in her Ok column, Kimberley insists that the choice of finalists was Cheryl’s and Cheryl’s alone. She said:
“Surely most people agree that it’s ridiculous how much scrutiny Cheryl’s come under for her choices on The X Factor.”

American R&B star Usher has backed rejected X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu, saying “I hope she gets another chance.”
The Omg singer performed on last night’s results show and the Xtra Factor (video here) and after his appearance, told The Mirror that he hopes the Zimbawean teenager won’t be deported.
He said: “Everyone deserves a chance. It’s a horrible situation if she has to be sent back, but hopefully they can work something out so she’ll be able to achieve her dreams as a recording artist one day.”
Admitting that he loves performing on Simon Cowell’s shows (he has previously appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and American Idol) Usher added:
“It’s an honour to be working with Simon again. I have to be careful when I’m performing around him, though. I don’t want him to give me scores or judge’s marks.

X Factor reject Gamu Nhengu has claimed that she hasn’t heard from Simon Cowell or Cheryl Cole since she failed to make the final 12.
The 18 year old was dropped from the show’s lineup at judges houses and earlier this week immigration officials refused to approve the family’s latest visa application, because her mum Nokutula claimed state benefits which she was technically not entitled to.
In an interview with The News Of The World, Gamu admitted that despite the furore surrounding her life this week, she hasn’t heard from any of the X Factor team. She said:
“I have had no calls from Cheryl or from Simon. I haven’t spoken to any of the big producers either.
“But I hear that Simon’s lawyers are trying to help.”
Nhengu also insisted that Cowell and co knew about her visa issues, before judges houses was even filmed.

This sounds like a conveniently timed media uproar just as Simon Cowell's UK-broadcast The X Factor airs its first 2½ hour live show beginning tonight. Or else it's the 5th recent TV scandal plaguing Cowell. In any case, Simon is defending his show’s producers after a UK newspaper claimed they knew one short-listed contestant faced deportation and told X Factor judge Cheryl Cole not to pick her. Instead, pop singer Cole chose two other contestants over viewer favourite Gamu Nhengu, the Zimbabwe-born 18 year old. Cowell told Deadline that it's not true that the show's producers ordered Cole to drop Nhengu. “We were unaware there would be any problem with her visa until this week,” he told Deadline. Cole, too, has gone on the record saying it was her decision alone to drop Nhengu. But fans online are now trying to organise a voting boycott of the show until “Gamu” is reinstated.

Digital Spy forums members have expressed their disappointment about Gamu Nhengu's axe from The X Factor. The Zimbabwe-born singer missed out on the final cut yesterday, when Cheryl Cole revealed that her Top 3 girls would be Rebecca Ferguson, Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd. Fans of Nhengu vented anger at Cole's decision, pointing out that Waissel and Lloyd had both failed to complete their performances at the Judges' Houses stage. Forum member Jeanoj said: "Gamu is far and away the most outstanding singer in the competition! Cheryl Cole is stone deaf!" Awshum-Yawn agreed, commenting: "Seriously hoping it's not the last I see and hear from Gamu. I made a pledge not to buy any Syco music products a while back but would break that pledge if Gamu gets a contract either via X Factor or outside it." Anactoria (more)...

“It’s all bits of information that help you decide who you could work with.”

Simon Cowell has promised viewers that he will never allow auto-tuning to be used on The X Factor again.
The music mogul laid down the law with producers after a public outcry occurred, when obvious voice altering techniques were used on hopefuls during the first show of 2010.
Cowell told The Sun that he has since sacked the sound man who was responsible for auto-tuning Gamu Nhengu and G and S’s performances.
But he insists that touching up their vocals was “not cheating”.
Cowell said:
“Since people were concerned about it, we won’t do it again. To say we were using it to cheat is nonsense.
“Sometimes the screaming of the audience drowns people out. We only ever had to use it under extreme conditions.”
If the use of auto-tuning is so acceptable, then we have to winder why he bothered sacking anyone?

Simon Cowell has dumped the episode of the show that was planned to air tomorrow because it's not up to his standards, says the Daily Mail. Instead, TV viewers will see the show which was meant to air on September 4. Cowell says that people have to be able to trust The X Factor because of the cheating scandal. Supposedly, he was up until 3 Am on Thursday morning editing two shows side by side. He then made the decision to swap them round. The show's producers have been accused of cheating after it emerged that contestant Gamu Nhengu had her vocal Auto-Tuned. More than 300 fans complained to ITV -- and regulator Ofcom said it is investigating any accusations of unfair advantage. It has also emerged that show producer Talkback Thames used sound-filtering technology during auditions of another of Cowell's UK shows, Britain's Got Talent. Simon Cowell's Third UK Cheating Scandal...
