Ufc
The last Ufc event prior to Ufc 179 is in the books, and it provided a solid night of action, though little that really surprised in comparison to how the card played out on paper. At Ufc Fight Night 54, all the favourites on the main picked up victories, with no exceptions – the exact opposite to how the day’s earlier card, Ufc Fight Night 53 (a.k.a. Ufc Fight Night: Nelson vs. Story) played out.
Headliner Rory MacDonald was the big story of the night, at long last picking up a finish victory, and possibly earning himself the title shot he has been after since Gsp left the division. His win in the third round against Tarec Saffiedine proves that MacDonald can do more than point fight, and against a solid fighter no less (Saffiedine was the final Strikeforce welterweight champion, and undefeated since 2011).
Meanwhile, both Canadian winners of The Ultimate Fight Nations: Canada vs.

Does “Ares” deserve a title shot? Is he still the heir apparent to Georges St. Pierre?
These questions are likely to be answered at Ufc Fight Night 54 Saturday night, as the Ufc heads to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada for its first event in the province.
This is the second card of a double header on Saturday, and arguably has the biggest fight of the bunch in Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine, but the card has undergone a bit of a last minute shake-up, and the supporting cast isn’t much better than what the Ufc has planned for Sweden earlier in the day on a Fight Pass exclusive.
Off the card are flyweight Louis Gaudinot and bantamweight Rob Font. Gaudinot was expected to open up the main card against Patrick Holohan, who has now been dropped down to the prelims. Font’s opponent, Mitch Gangon, now opens the main card against Roman Salazar,...

Stipe Miocic was in a lose-lose situation heading into tonight’s main event against light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale. If he doesn’t smash the Brazilian in the first round, people will doubt how good Miocic really is. If Miocic loses the fight, he plummets in the Ufc heavyweight rankings and won’t get a title shot for a very long time. The number seven ranked heavyweight in the Ufc chose the first option as Miocic defeated Maldonado by first round Tko in 0:35.
To begin the fight, Maldonado went right at Miocic. The Ohio native though kept his cool and hit Maldonado with a left hand that dropped the Brazilian. Miocic let him up and then dropped Maldonado with a right hand. A couple hammerfists later and referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight.

Now that Strikeforce has finally closed its doors, parent company Zuffa can officially announce the full list of fighters that have been brought over to the top-level promotion, the Ufc. The introduction of these fighters, mainly in the Mw, Ww, and Lw division, gives added life and excitement to a promotion putting on more events and more fights each year, particularly with the massive Fox deal. In truth, several notable Strikeforce fighters have already made the transition over to the Ufc over the last year, including Alistair Overeem and Ronda Rousey.
From the heavyweights, Daniel Cormier (11-0) is the sole entrant to be initially announced. He is a former Olympic wrestler and heavyweight grand prix winner. The weakest division in terms of depth got two new faces in LHWs Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2) and Gian Villante (10-3). While Villante is still a prospect, expect Mousasi to immediately make noise with...
