Rudyard Kipling’s “Kim” is set to get an animated feature adaptation by Indian filmmaker Ketan Mehta.
Mehta’s animation studio, Cosmos-Maya, will co-develop the film alongside Irish animation studio Piranha Bar. Mehta will direct.
“Kim” is a story by Kipling (pictured above) about Kimball O’Hara, Aka Kim, a savvy street kid turned child spy in colonial-era India who becomes an apprentice to a Shaolin monk. Kim is co-opted as a spy for the British Empire before embarking on an adventure of friendship, treachery and self-discovery.
Mehta, a recipient of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, has co-written the screenplay with James V. Hart.

India and Singapore-based animation outfit Cosmos-Maya is driving into the animated feature arena with “Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds,” an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel “The Three Musketeers.”
A co-production with Spain’s Apolo Films, “Dogtanian” is an iconic television property that was first aired on Mbs in Japan in 1981, Television Espanola in 1982 and the BBC in 1985. There have been several iterations of the show since, and some 40 years on, it is still airing in more than 100 territories.
Emmy and Annie nominee Doug Langdale (“Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness”) is writing the film script, based on the original written by Claudio Biern Boyd, who is President of Apolo Films. Toni Garcia (“Invizimals”) is set to direct.

The announcement comes on the back of the iconic characters' recent inclusion at the prestigious Madame Tussauds wax museum. After creating a splash at Madame Tussauds in Delhi, the lovable icons will head to Madame Tussauds London and many other destinations in Europe as the series takes a leap with the theme, 'The Adventures of Motu Patlu in Europe'. Summer has come early for millions of kids in India. Cosmos-Maya has launched ?Inspector Chingum?, an eponymous spin-off of the popular ?Motu Patlu? franchise on TV. Fans of the character can watch the show on Disney?s Hungama TV 29th April onwards.
The show was launched on Amazon Prime Video last summer and has been doing well on the platform. Disney has therefore been successful in leveraging the placement of the show.
The very popular Inspector Chingum is one of the characters from Cosmos-Maya?s Motu Patlu and has been featured in more than 400 episodes of the series. Kids have loved him for 7 years and now he has his own show. This 52 episode series will have a 22-minute run time for each episode.
Chingum, inspired by Superstar Rajinikanth, has a heart of gold, helps everyone in need and carries out his duties with immense diligence. His misadventures make the character both comical and action-oriented.
