Acclaimed fashion designer at her very core is an artist first and foremost. Having begun her degree in fine arts from the Corcoran College of Art and Designs, Milla went on to a successful career as an art director in New York. However, it was after attending the Dior Couture presentation in Paris, Milla felt irresistibly compelled to switch her studies and focus on fashion and designs.
Inspired by modernist forerunners like Paul Poiret, who effectively freed women from the confines of corsetry, Ann Lowe, Claire McCardell, and Halston whose American fashions were revolutionary, Kai explored concepts of the structural angles and draping without losing any of the romanticism of women's dressing. Her designs inevitably drew A-List devotees such as first lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Academy Award winner Halle Berry, pop superstar Rihanna, actresses Olivia Wilde, Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes, and Kerry Washington. The powerhouse designer gained worldwide media attention after becoming one of the go-to formal designers for First Lady Michelle Obama.
