- When playing Oliver at the age of 16, she kept her long hair inside the hat but not pinned up. When she removed it at the end and the hair tumbled out, there was an audible gasp from the audience who had thought she really was a boy whose voice hadn't broken yet. In the same production her mother thought that 'Bill Sykes' was really hurting her by pulling her ear and wouldn't believe that she was just acting.
