- Philip Grimsley was born in a small, south central Kansas town to Loren and Marilyn Grimsley. Growing up, he became fascinated with movies at an early age. His father helped to begin that interest by taking his son to see his first sci-fi movie, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, 8 times. From that moment on, a passion for movies was born, whether it was watching silent films or westerns with his father, he was hooked. He lived a normal childhood, even with the divorce of his parents at the age of 5, living with his mother and younger brother. He was encouraged during his elementary school years to learn computers and computer programming. As he reached his teenage years, he became more interested in horror and science fiction films, and started a hobby writing short stories using those genres. His family grew with the addition of two step sisters and a step mother, when his father remarried in 1991. Not long after the marriage, he would move in with his father, living there until completing high school.
After graduating high school in 1993, the following year Philip enlisted into the U.S. Navy and chose the AT [Aviation Electronics Technician] rating. While serving, he would get the nickname "Grimm" (derived from his last name and, sometimes, somber personality). After serving 4 years, he reenlisted in 1998, having his ceremony conducted under the keel of the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk (CV-63) while in dry dock in Bremerton, WA. After the Twin Towers tragedy of 9/11, he developed type 1 diabetes during the Afghanistan war (Operation Enduring Freedom), due to a viral infection. Four months later, tragedy struck once again with the death of his first born son, who was only 1 years old. In January 2003, Grimm was placed in the Navy's Temporary Disability Retirement List [TDRL] and, later that year, was blessed with the birth of his second son. During that time, he took his hobby, that he started the year earlier, of computers and filmmaking more serious. He took his childhood passion of movies and began to work in video production and editing. Slowly learning the ends and outs of filmmaking, he formed his post production company, Grimm Reaper Productions, in late 2004.
In 2006, his company got their first break in the industry with the work of the opening animation intro for Dark Spider's internet show, Dark Spider's Web, featured on ScreamTV.net. Shortly after, he met Charlie Brady, building a collaborative friendship that would lead to them working on projects ranging from corporate videos to short films. Finally, after 5 years of being separated from the Navy and placed on TDRL, he was honorably discharged in 2008.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Philip Grimsley
