‘Bittersweet’ is the perfect word for the news that the final season of Warehouse 13 premiere date has been announced. It will only be half a season, six episodes, but it is wonderful that the show will be given a chance for a suitable series finale.
In purely happier news, we now also have premiere dates for the third season of Continuum, new series comics-based Metal Hurlan Chronicles (with James Marsters!), new competition Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, and more. To nobody’s surprise, Halloween is our favorite time of year. Whether it gives us an even better excuse to dial up our favorite classics from the collection, to dress up as our favorite characters from horror, to explore haunted mazes, to party, or to eat a bunch of bite sized candy, Halloween bubbles over with fun and excitement. For many, the first thing one thinks of when October comes along are pumpkins. Those gloriously orange orbs! Pumpkin carving has been a rite of passage for many kids, but in recent years, it has turned into a full blown avenue for artistic creation, featuring a parade of preposterously phenomenal pumpkins.
What follows is a collection of my five favorite carved pumpkins. If I had done this last week, or in an hour, this list would’ve been different. That’s how hard it was to cull the choices down. Unlike...

Nothing fills me up with the Halloween spirit like plunging a butcher knife deep into the pulp of a nice plump pumpkin. Artfully, I slice away with feigned Michael Myers-like precision, but alas, my attempts at portraying the grim image from my mind to the orange canvas in front of me usually fall woefully short. The same, however, cannot be said for master of the pumpkin patch Ray Villafane. His Predator carving still gives me the creeps. Imagine bumping into this on a dark Halloween night! Photo: Ray Villafane With realism like this, is it any wonder why Ray took home the 2010 Grand Prize from Food Network’s Pumpkin Challenge II? Ray’s number one tip: "Pick a good, thick-walled pumpkin.” What Halloween list would be complete without a great zombie entry? Ray hits the nail on the decomposing head with this one: Photo: Vidura Barrios This next carving by Ray is absolutely amazing…...

We've posted a fair amount of awesome pumpkin carvings throughout the month of October, but I saved the best for last! Here's an insanely badass giant pumpkin carving of a full sized zombie. The pumpkin sculpture was created by master pumpkin, toy and sand sculptor Ray Villafane and his radical team from Villafane Studios. The largest pumpkin they carved up weighed 1,872 pounds.
The Pumpkin Zombie is known as the Harvester, and as you can see he's pulling a few other pumpkin zombies right out of the ground by their pumpkin vines. It's amazing to see what people are doing with pumpkins these days.
Check out the process of creating this zombie scene in the videos! There's also more pictures below!

Last year at this time we introduced you to Ray Villafane, a pumpkin-carving master who seems to have a thing for the undead. His 2011 tribute to zombies was one of the coolest carving jobs we'd ever seen, and what made the story even better was knowing it was carved into the world's largest pumpkin (at the time), weighing in at 1,818.5 pounds. Here's what it looked like ... This year Villafane is back and, yup, he's attempting to carve zombies out of the world's largest pumpkins again. Last year's exhibit was all about zombies clawing their way out of the world's largest pumpkin, but this year Villafane took the zombie out of the pumpkin and presented this pretty amazing (and scary... and disgusting) full-sized, six-foot zombie that shows an...

No, it has nothing to do with Twilight or Batman or Star Wars ... thank god. If you've got the world's largest pumpkin (at 1, 818.5 pounds) on display, and your intentions are to carve something into that bad boy, then whatever it is better be worth it. Based on these images, it totally was worth it, as carving master Ray Villafane was brought into New York's Botanical Gardens yesterday to unleash a storm of blood-thirsty zombies on the king of all pumpkins. Yup, dude carved a chaotic scene into the almost 2,000-pound pumpkin, featuring a number of zombies cracking through the massive orange shell as if they were rising out of the ground from the dead. The details on this thing are extraordinary, right down to the pieces of pumpkin positioned to look as if...

If you're a fan of comic book action figures, you probably know who Ray Villafane is even if you don't recognize his name. The 42-year-old Arizona native earns his weekly paychecks by sculpting wax prototypes of toys and action figures for companies like DC Comics. But every year come fall, Villafane becomes known for something a bit more festive.
Along with his gift for working with clay, the sculptor makes a yearly tradition of creating masterpieces out of pumpkins every Halloween. The Wall Street Journal, who were duly impressed by Villafane's skills, caught up with the sculptor to talk to him about his pumpkin carving endeavors.
"I like carving pumpkins for the same reason people who enjoy looking at them enjoy looking at them. I experience the same enjoyment that they do. It hasn't lost that appeal to me yet," he explained.
Villafane doesn't typically go into pumpkin designing with a clear idea in mind.
