- Smith learned his filmmaking craft by essentially four methods; studying the history of film at college, watching an excessive amount of movies (many on multiple viewings), completing highly-accredited crash courses in both writing and directing, and making five short films. He established his own film production company in 2010 by being the founding member of Razorback Pictures. Since then, he has built a strong body of work with each film, evidently progressing a level higher in story and production value with every project.
From a young age, Smith was besotted with movies and the escapism that came with them - watching several films each day became an addiction, especially his love for the Horror and Gangster genres. He grew up in the United Kingdom - close to the city of London, in a town notorious for high statistics on crime and in an era when football hooliganism was rife.
Smith studied film at college in the UK and it was here, he learned the importance of having an encyclopedic knowledge of cinema - not just movies from the last 30 to 40 years, but since the beginning with what he describes as essential tools; American filmmaker D.W. Griffith, German Expressionism pictures from the 1920's, Italian Neorealist cinema post World War II and French crime films from the 1950's and 1960's.
Smith decided to turn his life experiences of being surrounded by crime, together with having Francois Truffaut-like knowledge of film into writing screenplays and then making his own material - five crime thriller short films. During this process, Smith completed crash courses in Advanced Screenwriting at AFTRS (Australian Film Television and Radio School) and a Master Class in Directing at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) both in Sydney, Australia.
His movies so far have screened at more than 50 film festivals around the globe and covered several continents, including countries such as; France, Australia, Croatia, Belize, Spain and many in the USA - where his style and story is more widely accepted. Often making dark and controversial films, with memorable characters that use thought-provoking and engaging dialogue, Smith has three feature films in the works - each to be shot in a different country; Australia, the Philippines and the United Kingdom.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Anonymous
