Yilam Fang
- Actor
Yilam Fang was born and raised in Hong Kong. Graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with first class honours in social work profession, Yilam met an art therapist at work who inspired her to pursue her passion in performing arts. Yilam decided to switch her path and applied for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. In the same year due to Education Reform in Hong Kong, the Academy closed the admission of Diploma Year 1. Nevertheless Yilam received an discretionary offer after 3 rounds of auditions and interview. There were only 4 people admitted that year and Yilam was among them to be granted direct entry to Year 2 of Drama School, despite having no prior experience on stage. Yilam participated in the production of "The Visit" (2008-2009, first run and re-run) as an actress and an assistant stage manager, and "The Players" (2011), as one of the leading actresses. Beyond the love for acting, Yilam was profoundly inspired by her study in directing. Through screenplay writing and a directing experience in "The Glass Menageries" (2009), she rediscovered her once-lost belief in family reconciliation, and decided to carry on her mission in helping people. After graduation from the Drama School the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she was admitted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong for a Masters degree in Family Education and Family Counselling. She worked though unresolved matters from her own family of origin, and started to combine expressive arts with social work with people in need. She worked as a social worker and a counselor after obtaining the masters degree, and later became social work educator in universities.
Yilam Fang is a part-time teacher in the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, and free-lanced trainer on expressive arts facilitation. She is also keen on combining creative means, such as cooking, baking, yoga, mindfulness, into therapies.
