As we near the conclusion of the first phase of the “America’s Got Talent: All-Stars” competition, there’s one question on our mind: What do the superfans have against singers? Out of the 40 acts to perform in the first round so far, a quarter of them can be considered vocal talents, but only chorale group Detroit Youth Choir has advanced, and that was thanks to a Golden Buzzer from Terry Crews. The nine other singers failed to earn enough votes from the superfans and were eliminated, but why?
Among the singing acts eliminated so far are former Golden Buzzer acts Cristina Rae and Sara James as well as champions of “Canada’s Got Talent” and “Dominica’s Got Talent” Jeanick Fournier and Keren Montero. Both Jeanick and Keren placed within the top three with the superfans on their respective episodes, as did Caly Bevier and Ndlovu Youth Choir. None of...

There’s no faulting “Yellow Rose” for its good intentions, but this tale of a young Filipina teen finding her voice as a country artist (while dealing with her immigration status) almost always feels like it’s skimming the surface of a deeper story.
Documentary director Diane Paragas makes her debut as a fiction filmmaker, and while she and cinematographer August Thurmer certainly achieve verisimilitude in their Texas locations — the flatness of Bastrop, the city lights of Austin, the bright stage of a honky-tonk — the screenplay by Paragas, Annie Howell (“Claire in Motion”), and Celena Cipriaso tells the story in the broadest strokes possible, and the lack of specificity undercuts the film’s impact.
High-schooler Rose (Broadway performer Eva Noblezada) lives in a Bastrop motel, where her widowed mother Priscilla (Princess Punzalan) works as a housekeeper. Priscilla lovingly and strictly tries to keep an eye on Rose’s whereabouts, since both are without legal documentation,...

There are a lot of talented singers out there, but we can count only a few that really evokes a shock value when they open their mouths. Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy has been surprising people with his vocal duality for a while now. He made waves a couple of years ago after singing a rendition of the popular song The Prayer, which was originally sung by two incredible vocalists—Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. The shock came with the fact that Pomoy sang the song all by himself, rendering two voices of tenor and soprano quality. Pomoy became a finalist in

America’s Got Talent: The Champions managed to save some of its biggest surprises for Monday’s grand finale — and we’re not just talking about that tongue-wagging performance from Kiss.
In true Agt fashion, the finale was a gloriously overdramatic hodgepodge of behind-the-scenes shenanigans and on-stage collaborations. Highlights included Season 5 superstar Lindsey Stirling helping Silhouettes tell another sad story about a man going off to war, V.Unbeatable teaming up with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, and sand artist Kseniya Simonova doing her thing to the music of Angelina Jordan and Tyler Butler-Figuroa.

After just seven episodes, the “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” ends with the results finale on February 17 that will see the season 2 winner crowned. Over the course of five audition episodes, 40 acts from around the world performed, vying for one of 10 places in the final, which aired on Feb. 10.
There were three ways to make the Top 10: be the Golden Buzzer pick of one of the four judges; win the most votes in each episode from the superfans and studio audiences at the tapings last fall; or be saved by the judges.
Three of the judges were gave their Golden Buzzers to dance groups: Simon Cowell picked Boogie Storm, Alesha Dixon went with Silhouettes and Howie Mandel was bowled over by V.Unbeatable. The fourth, Heidi Klum, singled out singer Angelina Jordan. Unlike season 1, host Terry Crews was denied a chance to put an act straight through to the final.

The Top 10 acts of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” Season 2 performed Monday night for their final chance of impressing the superfan voters. One such act, Alexa Lauenburger, gave it her all with her cute troupe of talented dogs doing the conga, but Simon Cowell simply wasn’t impressed. “I think you’ve just blown your chance of winning the show,” he hissed. Alexa, age 11, is not used to hearing negative criticism as she previously won “Germany’s Got Talent” Season 11. The “Agt: The Champions” season 2 finale runs for two hours starting at 8 p.m. Et/Pt next Monday, February 17. While 40 acts started off this competition, it has now come down to just 10 finalists. Four of these were singled out by the judges for the Golden Buzzers while six of them survived last week’s semi-final.
As with last year, this second season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” was taped. That includes this finale, which means that viewers won’t get to vote for the season 2 winner. That decision was left to the superfans, who were drawn from “Agt” viewers in all 50 states. But unlike last year, they weren’t the only ones who chose the finalists and eventual winner. The regular studio audiences got to chime in as well.

The superfans on “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” are a controversial bunch, and for good reason. But are they biased toward homegrown American acts, since they’re obviously already familiar with their stories? Competing for the votes of the super fans and studio audience in this taped special will be 10 acts: four Golden Buzzers and the half dozen who made the cut in the semi-final that aired February 3.
This entire second season of “Agt: The Champions,” including the final where the season 2 winner was crowned, was taped last fall. Forty acts from around the world competed. These acts were divided into groups of 10, with four advancing from each of these episodes.

Poor Howie Mandel must be in a state of mourning following the comedy bloodbath on Monday’s episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” Only two stand-up comedians were still in the competition as of the semi-finals: “Agt” Season 14 finalist Ryan Niemiller and Season 9 “Australia’s Got Talent” semi-finalist JJ Pantano. Both were axed by the controversial superfans. As the panel’s requisite comedian, Mandel is often seen fighting for funny men and women, but he had no control over these delegates from all 50 states who hold all the power on “The Champions.”

Besides Ryan and JJ, a third stand-up comedian was asked back to compete on “The Champions”: Dan Naturman from “Agt” Season 9. He was eliminated in the first round after being X’ed by Simon Cowell, who Dan accused of not understanding anything about comedy.

Marcelito Pomoy, a falsetto singer who won “Philippines Got Talent” Season 2, was one of the 40 acts to return for another shot at glory in the second cycle of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” Well, he’s on track to win yet another title as he just advanced to the finals thanks to the superfan voters. Marcelito performed “Con Te Partiro” during Monday’s semi-finals episode and effortlessly slipped between his high range and lower register.
Do you agree with judge Howie Mandel that Marcelito has the “best shot” of winning the reality TV show? Or is another act more likely to prevail, joining magician Shim Lim on the list of ultimate “Champions”? Watch the “Agt” performance video above and read the judges’ comments below.

Episode five of season two of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” marked the semi-final stage of this year’s competition, featuring the 12 acts that advanced from the previous round based on either the Superfan vote or the Judges’ vote. From the group, the four acts to perform tonight that had earned the Judges’ vote were singer, dancer and accordion player Hans, dog tricks act Alexa Lauenberger and comedians JJ Pantano and Ryan Niemiller.
The other eight acts were voted through by the Superfans. They were: three acrobatic acts Duo Transcend, Sandou Trio Russian Bar and Duo Destiny, two magicians Dania Diaz and Marc Spelmann, and then singer Marcelito Pomoy, violinist Tyler Butler-Figueroa and contortionist Strauss Serpent.

Can Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel please be the next two judges booted from America’s Got Talent? After Monday’s episode of The Champions, which set the stage for next week’s semifinals, I’m not sure either one of them knows the meaning of the word anymore.
My frustration — which I imagine will be shared by many — comes from the final elimination of the night, the dreaded “judges’ choice.” This week, the panel’s options included Brian King Joseph, an exceptional violinist whose neuropathy will someday leave him paralyzed; Christian and Percy, a human-dog act that exemplifies strength, dedication and companionship; and JJ Pantano,...

While fans of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” are still upset with Simon Cowell for stealing Howie Mandel‘s Golden Buzzer, they at least agree on one thing: the judges made the right decision to save Ryan Niemiller in Episode 2. The stand-up comedian ended up as one of the superfans‘ third, fourth or fifth place acts along with Broadway singer Luke Islam and escape artist Spencer Horsman, which meant it was up to the judges to save one of them them. In a rare unanimous vote, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Alesha Dixon all agreed to send Ryan through to the semi-finals; Howie Mandel‘s vote wasn’t televised but he likely chose Ryan as well since he’s a huge fan of comedians.

One of the most heart-stopping reality TV moments in recent memory occurred during the second episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” Season 2, when danger act Ben Blaque nearly killed himself on the stage. The crossbow performer from “Agt” Season 7 and “Bgt” Season 10 set out to complete a trick that previously failed, but unfortunately it didn’t go according to plan this time, either. In fact, all four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Alesha Dixon (via Howie) — pressed their red X’s and buzzed him off the stage before he killed himself in front of a live studio audience.

After the “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” superfans voted to send Marcelito Pomoy and Marc Spelmann through to the semi-finals during Monday’s second episode, that left the judges with the final decision of the night. Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Alesha Dixon had the option of saving either stand-up comedian Ryan Niemiller, Broadway singer Luke Islam or escape artist Spencer Horsman, with their unanimous choice being … Ryan! Did the “Agt” judges make the right pick? Vote in our poll below.

During the second episode of NBC’s ratings juggernaut “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” host Terry Crews described the conversational superfans as “the faces of America from all 50 states of the union.” Indeed, these special voters control who stays and who goes each week, which means viewers at home have no power at all — bummer! This week the two acts that were sent through to the semifinals by the superfans were falsetto singer Marcelito Pomoy and mentalist Marc Spelmann. Did the superfans get it right? Another week of America’s Got Talent: The Champions brought another series of questionable decisions made by the judges.
Howie Mandel was in possession of this week’s Golden Buzzer, and while I don’t blindly agree with every decision he makes (Hans!!!), I still believe in his right to choose. Sadly, Simon Cowell took that right from him midway through Monday’s episode, reaching across the table and slamming his hand down on the Golden Buzzer in support of — wait for it — Boogie Storm.
