Itzel-Marine Gourmelon is a Franco-Mexican-American documentary filmmaker. Itzel-Marine uses she/her or they/them pronouns.
She/They were born in Mexico to French parents and immigrated to the southern United States in the '90s. Itzel-Marine, along with her/their siblings, was raised unconventionally by her/their parents traveling frequently all over the world. Itzel-Marine graduated from college from the University of Colorado, Denver with a degree in anthropology and film while spending summers and winters part-time in Australia and France.
Itzel-Marine then lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as the cinematographer for a local non-profit wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organization. With an opportunity to work for National Geographic, Itzel-Marine moved to Washington, DC, and worked as a full-time contract employee for 4 years. She/They worked on Emmy-winning films and were part of a 2019 expedition with Bob Ballard in pursuit of Amelia Earhart's airplane. Simultaneously, she/they were a founding co-chair of the Disney Diversity and Inclusion Business Employee Resource Group for Latinx/a/o inclusion.
In 2021, she/they launched a freelance documentary film company, Cactus Box Films LLC, that specializes in cinematography to generate wonder and gritty optimism for environmental, cultural, social advancement.
