It's official: director Kevin Tancharoen is using his web series, 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' as a way of showing off his ability to direct almost any kind of film. Last week's episode about Raiden (Ryan Robbins) was a semi-realistic and gritty take on the 'Mortal Kombat' universe similar to the director's short, 'Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.' This week, he decided to go down the foreign martial arts film route, complete with subtitles. This episode, which can be viewed below, starts off the rivalry between two characters who have always been similarly dressed, Scorpion (Ian Anthony Dale) and Sub Zero. (Kevan Ohtsji) As was the case with the first episode of two dedicated to Kitana (Sam Tjhia) and Mileena, (Jolene Tran) this first part is kind of like a disappointing first date with high expectations. Exclusive to Machinima's YouTube channel, the next episode of the Kevin Tancharoen directed...

Watch the entire 12-minute episode below and check out the first, second, third, fourth and fifth episodes. Plot: When Lord Raiden, God of Thunder and protector of Earth, finds himself in an earthly mental institution in the year 2011, his 'delusions' are treated with some rather primitive forms of therapy. Nonetheless, Blue, his beautiful, fragile yet insane fellow inmate, is Raiden's only hope of escaping the mental hospital and making his way to the Mortal Kombat tournament to defend Earthrealm from Shao Khan. The series stars Jeri Ryan ("Star Trek: Voyager) as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight) as Jax, Darren Shahlavi (300) as Kano, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Aleks Paunovic as Shao Khan, Saman-Tha Tjhia as Kitana, Jolene Tran as Mileena and Ryan Robbins as Raiden. Last week saw the debut of popular female characters, Kitana (Sam Tjhia) and Mileena (Jolene Tran) in the Machinima exclusive web series, 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy.' Their debut was mainly a tease as it focused on their early childhood, not on the exceptional martial arts that they master as adults. Below is the latest episode and it has the long dreamt about "girl fight." 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' is from director, Kevin Tancharoen, the man who revived interest in a live-action series based on the video games with his 2010 short that hit YouTube, 'Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.' Each episode of the series thus far has hit late Monday night/early Tuesday morning, so expect episode 6 on a similar timeline. Source: Machinima...

Mortal Kombat: Legacy: Season 1, Episode 5: Kitana & Mileena: Part 2 has premiered. Episode 5 of Kevin Tancharoen‘s Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2011) stars Aleks Paunovic, Samantha Tjhia, Jolene Tran, and Karin Inghammar. Mortal Kombat: Legacy: Season 1, Episode 5′s plot synopsis: “Kitana and Mileena have grown up thinking that they are sisters, yet have grown apart over the years. Despite Mileena’s growing resentment towards Kitana, Shao Kahn uses them to destroy all who threaten his rule. But when they come upon King Jerrod on one of their missions, they finally learn the truth about their Mother and Father, and Kitana looks to plot her revenge against Shao Kahn.” I like this episode more than the previous one: Mortal Kombat: Legacy: Season 1, Episode 4: Kitana & Mileena: Part 1. The fight scene between Kitana and Mileena is fast, intense, and the storyline is moved forward as well. I would have rather seen some...

Hope you liked last week's animated trip to Outworld and Edenia, as we're going back for more now that the fifth of nine installments in director Kevin Tancharoen's re-imagining of the Mortal Kombat franchise Mortal Kombat: Legacy has hit the net!
Starring Aleks Paunovic as Outworld overlord Shao Kahn, Sam Tjhia as Kitana and Jolene Tran as Mileena, the fifth installment continues the story started last week as Kitana and Mileena continue their training, only to be tasked by big bad Shao Kahn (minus the skull mask) with the assasination of King Jerod, whom Kitana has yet to realize is her own father!
The largely animated and CG episode continues the stage set for for a more otherworldly approach to the series, also briefly reprising the savage Baraka as leader of the fierce Tarkata army, a notable difference from his original appearance in director Kevin Tancharoen's concept trailer.

[1] The first three episodes of Kevin Tancharoen's web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, have focused on Earthlings Sonja Blade (Jeri Ryan), Stryker (Tahmoh Penikett), Jax (Michael Jai White) and Johnny Cage (Matt Mullins). For the fourth installment, the series leaves our planet behind for the land of Edenia, which has been taken over by the sinister Outworld empire. The new episode, titled "Kitana & Mileena (Part 1)" follows the origin of the Edenian "sisters," portrayed here by Samantha Tjhia and Jolene Tran. Aleks Paunovic plays their "father" Shao Khan, and Beatrice Ilg is Kitana's mother. Watch it after the jump. [via ScreenRant [2]] I'm not too well-versed in Mortal Kombat mythology -- I was always more of a Street Fighter girl, myself -- so I can't speak to how faithful these webisodes have been to the source material. What I can say is that I've been enjoying the series so far. The stories are definitely entertaining,...

Fourth episode in Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” web series features a history/background of wardrobe-challenged Kitana and Mileena. Half of the episode is in animated form, which, I dunno, isn’t that kind of a gyp? Isn’t the whole point of this doing everything in live-action? Anyways. Starring Beatrice King as Queen Sindel, Aleks Paunovic as Outworld overlord Shao Kahn, Sam Tjhia as Kitana and Jolene Tran as Mileena, the fourth installment leaves Earth behind to explore the backstory of Edenia, which finds itself conquered by Outworld as big bad Shao Kahn (minus the skull mask) seizes power over the land, taking Queen Sindel to wife and raising both baby Kitana and her sinister clone Mileena.
The largely animated and CG episode sets the stage for for a more otherworldly approach to the series, also introducing the savage Baraka as leader of the fierce Tarkata army, a notable difference from his original appearance in director Kevin Tancharoen's concept trailer.

Johnny Cage and his woes in the world of reality television have been cast aside for the ladies. The fourth episode of 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' (see below) focuses on the early years of Kitana (Sam Tjhia) and Mileena. (Jolene Tran) The two girl's mother, Sindel (Beatrice King) makes an appearance, as does Shao Kahn, (Aleks Paunovic) Shang Tsung, (Johnson Phan) and the always attractive, Baraka. (Fraser Aitcheson) Sindel is the most dissimilar to the way she's typically depicted because of the timeline. She hasn't had time to go white-haired and crazy. 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' is exclusive to Machinima. The web series is directed by Kevin Tancharoen, the man who sparked a renewed interest in the idea of a live-action 'Mortal Kombat' film with his short, 'Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.' Although he's yet to get the go-ahead for a full feature film, 'Legacy' is proving to be a success,...
