He moved his family to Deadwood South Dakota in 1999. Where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, and then the Adam's Museum in Deadwood.
On his second retirement. He became involved with the Lawrence County Historical Society. And with Deadwood's Historic Preservation.
He had a son Mitsuo. And a daughter Sumie. And he also had three granddaughters (as of 2015).
He retired in 1988 from the United States Navy. Where he had attained the rank of Senior Chief. He had served 24½ years.
After leaving the Navy he attended Eastern Washington University in Cheney Washington. He graduated with a bachelors in anthropology. And a masters in cultural resources.
