Marvel’s attempt at creating a fresh jumping on point for readers didn’t last too long before readers were forced into cross-over event after cross-over event. In fact, Marvel has had 3 major events this year alone. This is all well and good if you are into that sort of thing, but whatever happened to just telling a story? Luckily Marvel is dusting off their Marvel Knights line with a number of new and adult oriented self-contained stories featuring our favourite characters.
First on the docket is Marvel Knights: Spider-Man #1 which features the return of the Amazing Spider-Man himself, Mr. Peter Parker. With Spidey-Ock leaving a bitter taste in a lot of people mouths,...

Uncanny X-Men #6
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Art: Frazer Irving
Lettering: Vc’s Joe Caramagna
Cover: Frazer Irving
Publisher: Dan Buckley for Marvel Comics
This week, Uncanny X-Men finally feels like its own book. Free of tie-ins from other X-series, and with a strong focus on Scott Summers’ X-Men, readers are finally rewarded with a fun story complimented by gorgeous artwork.
After a cold-open featuring an as of now unknown mutant, the story then picks up right where we left off last issue, with the X-Men finding themselves trapped in Limbo thanks to Dormammu. After summoning an army of demons in his attempted coup for Limbo, the X-Men find they are unprepared for any real world challenges. That is, until the Stepford Cuckoo’s psychically manipulate the team into thinking they are extremely brave. Now the X-Men, armed with bravado, must find a way out of Limbo and report Dormammu’s plan to Dr. Strange.

Uncanny X-Men #5
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Frazer Irving
Letters: Vc’s Joe Caramagna
Cover(s): Frazer Irving, Ed McGuiness & Morry Hollowell
Publisher: Dan Buckley for Marvel Comics
Being a fan of Brian Michael Bendis can be very frustrating at times. While he is known for his long arcs, sometimes the plodding pace of the exposition is enough to make a reader give up entirely. This is especially tiresome when his books cover the same ground, week after week. Luckily for us, Bendis is starting to pick up the pace with Uncanny X-Men #5, a solid entry that helps bring the book back toward ‘must-grab’ stature.
After last issue’s unfortunate re-run of All New X-Men, Uncanny is trying to give the readers what they want, albeit, in the form of a flashback (sigh). It seems that even Illyana has fallen victim to the power of the phoenix force, but...

Nova #1

Illustrated by Ed McGuinness
Colors by Marte Gracia
Cover by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, & Marte Gracia
Published by Dan Buckley
There is a lot that can be expected from issues of Nova in the following months. With a writer like Jeph Loeb (Daredevil: Yellow, Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America) attached to this project, there are definite high hopes for readers. Marvel has added another title to their long list of Now! restarts with Nova #1 (released Feb. 20th, 2013).
Nova #1 begins in narration and dialogue from a “new” main character, Sam Alexander (who was introduced as the current Nova during the Avengers vs. X-Men event), and his father Jesse who was a Nova Corps member seventeen years ago. This first issue mainly focuses on the relationship with Jesse and Sam. Unfortunately, going any deeper into a description...

Marvel Studios attempts to credit all the creators of its characters, Kevin Feige has said. The studio head was asked how the company will protect the legacy of creators including Bill Mantlo and the late Jack Kirby in an interview with Moviefone. Feige declined to address the issue how Marvel will "protect" those creators, but promised that everything is done to credit them. "Well, it's a complex question, but I will say that [Marvel chief creative officer] Joe Quesada and [Marvel Comics publisher] Dan Buckley will take the lead on a lot of that and they are actually quite, quite good in acknowledging and letting us know as we share the scripts and character lists with them [by saying]: 'Here are the creators of this. Here is where they are. Here is who they are', and figuring out what we can do in terms of recognition," (more)...
