Axed MasterChef Australia contestant Mat Beyer has gone on record to explain why he broke the show's rules. Following weeks of speculation about reported rule-breaking, the 24-year-old was finally shown leaving the Channel Ten reality cooking show on Wednesday evening after smuggling a smartphone into the contestants' house. Participants are only allowed one ten-minute phone call per week under the rules of the show. Beyer explained in his exit interview: "I had the phone there just to keep in touch with my girlfriend. There was a lot going on in my life at the time and I really wasn't coping very well with the limited contact. "I didn't cheat; you can't cheat in the competition. You can't pull your phone out and say, 'I don't know how to do this, I'm just gonna Google it'. It's just not feasible; I never took (more)...

Billy Law has left MasterChef. The 34-year-old web designer from New South Wales, who made it to the top ten contestants in the Australian version of the cooking reality show, was eliminated last night after failing to plate up an acceptable side dish in a pressure test. Law, Mat Beyer and Hayden Quinn went head-to-head in a task that saw Law fail to impress the judges with his salt encrusted guinea fowl and "raw" and "stained" beetroot salad. After the verdict was delivered, the wannabe chef said: "It was devastating to be told I was leaving and I really wanted to keep on going. I had achieved a lot and my experience on MasterChef was exciting."

Mat Beyer is reportedly returning to MasterChef. The It support technician, who made it to the final 12 contestants on the Australian version of the reality television show, was allegedly axed five weeks ago amid fears that he had been accessing recipes secretly after smuggling a smartphone into the Sydney house. Beyer was believed to be missing but it has now been revealed that he had been put up in a hotel room and given a gag order by producers of the programme. The 24-year-old's father Michael told The Sunday Telegraph that he thinks his son will be making a comeback to the show, saying: "He has been told not to say anything so they must have something in the wings or want to boost their ratings." Craig Young has left MasterChef. The professional musician, who made it to the top 13 of the Australian version of the reality television show, was eliminated after going head-to-head with Alana Lowes in a 15-minute cooking challenge. In round one, Young went up against Michael Weldon and Mat Beyer but failed to impress the judges with his "overcooked" quail breast. Weldon was praised for his "delicious" steak tartare with garlic chips, while Beyer's quail, fig and bacon dish was described as a "knockout combination". In the second round, Lowes competed with Dani Venn and Peter Vickery to stay in the competition, but shocked the judges by serving them "raw" lamb cutlets. Venn's Vietnamese beef salad was labelled "appetising" and although Vickery's lamb was a bit "rare, they told him that he (more)...

MasterChef Australia contestant Mat Beyer has not been seen since his cheating scandal surfaced. It was reported earlier this week that the It support technician, who made it to the final 17 contestants on the Australian version of the reality television show, was kicked out amid fears that he has been accessing recipes secretly after smuggling a smartphone into the Sydney house. Shaun Moorhouse, manager of Steer Bar and Grill where Beyer has been doing work experience since leaving MasterChef, told the Herald Sun that he has been trying to get in touch with the wannabe chef since the scandal to assure him that he still has an option to "come on board" and work for the South Yarra eaterie. He also defended Beyer's honour, saying that the 24-year-old (more)...

The Ten Network says a report that a contestant has been kicked off MasterChef Australia for smuggling a smartphone onto the hit cooking show is merely speculation.
The Herald Sun reports that Victorian contestant Mat Beyer was sent packing from MasterChef Australia two weeks ago after the show's producers caught him with the phone.
The paper says he was sent home within days of the contestants travelling to New York and the rule breach was discovered after a challenge where all cookbooks were confiscated.

Marion Grasby has spoken out about MasterChef's recent cheating scandal. It was reported yesterday that top 18 contestant Mat Beyer was axed from the show after being found with a banned smartphone that he was allegedly using to look up recipes. Grasby, who took part in last year's season of the Australian reality cooking contest, said that the show's bosses are very strict about "contraband" materials in the house and that if Beyer did have a phone, he would have breached "every rule" in the competition. According to the former contestant, this year's contestants would have been warned not to take TVs, radios, phones, newspapers and alcohol into the house, adding that they would have been frisked "like going through airport Customs" before entering. "You are constantly told, in no uncertain terms, that if you (more)...

Mat Beyer has been axed from MasterChef, reports have suggested. The 24-year-old It support technician, who made it to the final 17 contestants on the Australian version of the reality television show, was reportedly kicked out amid fears that he has been accessing recipes secretly after smuggling a smartphone into the Sydney house. According to The Daily Telegraph, Beyer's breach of the programme's rules was discovered when contestant's cookbooks were all taken away during a challenge. He had apparently had the phone for six weeks. Channel Ten has refused to comment on the reports, while a spokesperson for production company Shine Australia said that the rumours were unproven. A statement on the show's official Facebook page read: "Hey everyone, as most of you have probably heard this morning, there has been numerous news stories about what is happening (more)...
