Ellie Paxton-Hall has become the latest contestant to leave MasterChef Australia. The former nursing student lost out to Alana Lowes in a pressure test on the Channel Ten reality cooking competition. Paxton-Hall told the Herald Sun: "Getting into the final four was playing on my mind a lot while I was cooking. The pressure of knowing this was the last chance to get into the final week was hard." The pair were challenged to reinvent their worst dishes from MasterChef so far, with Paxton-Hall choosing to revamp her stuffed capsicum with caramelised oranges. She will (more)...

Hayden Quinn has denied having a romance with Ellie Paxton-Hall. The MasterChef contestant, who was eliminated from the Australian version of the reality television show earlier this week after over-salting a chicken dish, said that he would rather set a friend of his up with fellow competitor Paxton-Hall than date her himself. When asked about the relationship rumours in his official exit interview, Quinn said: "No, there's nothing going on with me and Ellie. I've got a friend who likes the look of her though, so I wouldn't want to step on his toes." When the Quinn and Paxton-Hall dating reports first surfaced, he denied them but admitted that she was the kind of girl he would go out with. Paxton-Hall (more)...

Billy Law has left MasterChef Australia for a second time. The 34-year-old web designer was eliminated again last night when he lost out in a dessert-making challenge against Kate Bracks. Ellie Paxton-Hall, who had also been facing elimination, used her immunity pin to stay in the show. Law revealed in an interview with news.com.au that he was paid a weekly retainer of Au$$500 (£331) during filming. The national weekly minimum wage is Au$$589.30 (£390.23). "It's enough to survive to pay bills and things like that, but I'm not sure about a mortgage," he explained. "I'm lucky I don't have a mortgage." Law was originally eliminated earlier in the month when he failed to plate up an acceptable side dish during a (more)...

Danielle Dixon has left MasterChef. The 29-year-old admin manager, who made it to the last 12 contestants on the Australian version of the cooking reality television show, was eliminated after going head-to-head with Peter Vickery and Ellie Paxton-Hall in a duck challenge set by guest chef Matthew Kemp. Each contestant was asked to recreate a dish inspired by the traditional French duck a l'orange. Paxton-Hall impressed the judges with her "beautifully cooked" Szechuan crusted duck and Asian vinaigrette. Matt Preston praised the "nice fried crunch of the shallots", while George Calombaris said that her "fresh, lubricated salad" made him "salivate". Vickery was criticised for making a dish too similar to Kemp's creation. Preston said that his duck breast and braised garlic witlof was not "radically different" (more)...

Adam Bowen has revealed that he has "no regrets" at leaving MasterChef. The 32-year-old scuba diving business owner, who asked the judges in Monday night's episode if he could leave the Australian cooking reality TV show instead of Danielle Dixon, said that his time on the series was "great". Bowen told News.com.au that he realised he didn't have the passion of fellow competitors Dixon, Michael Weldon and Ellie Paxton-Hall during a Greek challenge. He added that he decided they deserved spots in the contest more than him. Bowen said: "There was no need to take a spot from somebody else, especially those three. They're young, they haven't had their start in life like I have. "When I heard Danielle's story I realised that I couldn't have gone back to the house and felt comfortable in the house (more)...

Last night's MasterChef elimination was changed at the last minute. The judges on the Australian version of the cooking reality series were planning on asking Danielle Dixon to leave the competition but moments before they announced the verdict, fellow contestant Adam Bowen asked if he could drop out instead. Bowen and Dixon earlier went head-to-head with Michael Weldon and Ellie Paxton-Hall to re-create a selection of Greek dishes made by judge George Calombaris's mother Mary. Calombaris and fellow judges Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan said that although Bowen's dishes looked pale and his tzatziki was "so salty", they could not forgive Dixon for plating up raw pastry and greasy food. After the challenge, Bowen told the judging panel that he felt extreme guilt at remaining in the competition because he had decided that being a chef is (more)...

Jay Huxley has accused the MasterChef judges of preferring sweet dishes. The 31-year-old car sales manager, who was eliminated from the Australian version of the cooking reality TV show earlier this week, said that Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan's penchant for sugar affected his chances of winning the competition. Huxley was asked to leave the show after failing to impress the judging panel with his interpretation of a Dan Hong pandan chiffon cake. Ellie Paxton-Hall and Dani Venn managed to retain their spots in the contest. The eliminated contestant later told the Herald Sun: "Dessert, pork crackling and onion rings are the ingredients [the judges love]. If you could make a pork cake with onion rings on it, you would be set. "[Desserts] are not something I'm particularly good at because (more)...

Jay Huxley has left the Australian version of MasterChef. The 31-year-old car sales manager, who failed to make the top 24 in last year's season of the cooking reality show, entered an elimination challenge after failing to impress the judges with his Spanish churros dish. Huxley went head-to-head with 25-year-old publicist Dani Venn and 21-year-old Queenslander Ellie Paxton-Hall in a dessert challenge designed by celebrity chef Dan Hong. The trio had to re-create Hong's chiffon cake with palm sugar, black sesame ice cream and coconut tapioca sauce. Venn's "exceptionally light" cake and ice cream was praised by the judges, but they said that she could not be "forgiven" for her chalk-like tapioca. Paxton-Hall was criticised for her "undercooked" tapioca and "dense" sponge, but Matt Preston described her praline (more)...

Monday night's Australian MasterChef has topped television ratings. According to Aap, more than 1.5 million viewers tuned in to watch Melbourne wannabe chef Chelsea Fammartino leave the show after failing to impress judges with her fried rice and sweet and sour pork dish. Fammartino went head-to-head with fellow contestants and friends Rachel McSweeney and Ellie Paxton-Hall in the Asian cuisine challenge, but the judges labelled her pork "tough" and her sauce "vinegary". After her elimination, she said: "Even though the MasterChef doors are closing (more)...

Chelsea Fammartino has left the Australian version of MasterChef. The 34-year-old from Melbourne, who specialises in Italian cuisine, was eliminated from the competition after going head-to-head with friends and fellow contestants Ellie Paxton-Hall and Rachel McSweeney last night. In the Asian pressure test, the three wannabe chefs had to recreate fried rice, a battered pork dish and a sweet and sour sauce. The judges said McSweeney's food was "fabulous", adding that she got the fried rice "bang on", but they did not enjoy her "dry" pork. Gary Mehigan said that 21-year-old Paxton-Hall's rice was "a let down", but said that he was "swayed" by how "absolutely brilliant" she was to watch in the kitchen. Matt Preston said of her "crunchy" pork batter: "It makes me want to reach (more)...

Alex Glasson has described his time on MasterChef as "very stressful". The 27-year-old machinist from Western Australia, who was brought back to join the top 24 contestants on the reality show after fighter pilot Paul Lombardi dropped out, was eliminated in Monday night's show after going head-to-head with Billy Law and Ellie Paxton-Hall in a Bombe Alaska challenge. Glasson said in his official elimination interview: "Making the top 24 was outrageous for me because I didn't think it would ever happen, [but the competition is] very, very stressful. "My time in the kitchen was very hectic. I couldn't really find my feet with the timing of it all, because I'm used to taking hours and hours with the crazy stuff I do at home, so doing it within that tight timeframe was difficult. It was something I couldn't really adjust (more)...

Glasson went head-to-head with student nurse Ellie Paxton-Hall and web designer Billy Law in the challenge. After the elimination, judge Gary Mehigan told him: "You should be proud of yourself. You put something up and it looked pretty good. So well done. It's a shame you're going home... you'll be missed sorely." Glasson said: "I'm not going to let this stop me. (more)...
