Fox has picked up Canadian legal drama “Diggstown” from Entertainment One.
Created by Floyd Kane, and starring Vinessa Antoine, the series from Canadian public broadcaster CBC follows Marcie Diggs (Antoine), a star corporate lawyer who reconsiders her priorities and moves to work in a legal-aid office after her aunt commits suicide following the pressures of a malicious prosecution. Among a new group of ragtag lawyers, Marcie is driven by one thing: to never again allow innocent lives to be destroyed by the justice system.
Fox has swooped for seasons 1 and 2 of the drama. The acquisition marks the latest Canadian pick-up by a U.S. broadcaster — a trend that has grown in popularity in the last year as the Covid-19 crisis has stunted production Stateside but has had less of an impact north of the border.
The cast includes Natasha Henstridge (“Species”), C. David Johnson (“Street Legal”), Stacey Farber (“Grace and...

Can Shadowhunters come back from its disappointing first episode? Here's our review of The Mortal Instruments TV opener...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 The Mortal Cup
Lots of pilot episodes seem a bit clunky. They’ve got a fair amount of setting up to do, after all – the first episode of anything needs to introduce its audience to a setting, to characters, and, if the show’s got any kind of sci-fi or fantasy element, to the rules of its universe. So sometimes you get a bit more telling than showing, and some on-the-nose dialogue. That’s generally forgivable. But in the case of Shadowhunters, its first episode was so awkward it might be hard to come back from it.
To give it its due, it gets the first part out of the way quickly and fairly elegantly. The opening sequence establishes that this is a magical world...

Among the slew of new shows Netflix will be airing this season is the Canadian drama Between. The streaming service has now announced that the series will be premiering on Thursday, May 21. However, the most notable aspect of this series is that, unlike Netflix’s other offerings, the service will be releasing new episodes of the show’s 6-episode first season on a weekly basis. As part of the agreement under which Netflix bought the broadcast rights to the show, which is a three-way deal that involves Rogers in Canada as well as the Canadian streaming service Shomi, the episodes will make their premiere on Canada’s CityTV, which has first window right, on Thursday nights at 8 pm Est, with Netflix releasing the episodes on its services worldwide an hour later at 9 pm Est.

As we’re well aware, there are many rules within The Strain’s strigoi-killing universe (to wit, it can now be confirmed that offing the Master withers all his spawns). But the most consistent maxim seems to be that cumbersome cynics and non-believers don’t last long. Which is probably for the best, since they’re really annoying. One feels for Joan’s housekeeper, Neeva, when her young daughter Sebastiane (Shailene Garnett) gets an arrow in the eye from a mysterious new band of antihero vamps. Still, what did Sebastiane think would come of flouting all that medical knowhow and casual French dialect, never mind the gumption to drag Jayden and Keene back to their mother’s house of horrors? All one had to do was take a long look at Mr. Luss (Aaron Douglas of Battlestar Galactica) laid out on the floor to see what becomes of those who...
