Perhaps your average idea of a podcast is a public radio news program, with longform journalism uncovering a hidden area of everyday life. Maybe it’s an interview show, where hosts dig into the personal and professional lives of experts in any number of fields. Your favorite might even be a show where a handful of people talk about their favorite bits of pop culture — of which IndieWire has a few! — every week.
Beyond those podcasting subgenres is an emerging world of quality audio fiction, scripted programming that follows a carefully crafted story arc. Sometimes these shows are episodic, stretching over years’ worth of episodes. Others are less straightforward spins on a theatrical premise. There are enough shows out there to flood your queue, but for now, here are 10 quality podcasts worth subscribing to (if you haven’t already).

Now that "Mad Men" is over, "The Bachelorette" is ready to take its place as the best show on television. And by best we clearly mean most shamelessly Iq-reducing. But we're not here to judge, we're here to be the jury and pass stiff sentences against the clowns (that means you, Ryan M.) who showed up on Season 11's premiere to try and date Kaitlyn Bristowe, Britt Nilsson or whoever else showed up. We find most of them guilty of cringe-inducing silliness (not you, Joshua, Ian, Ben Z, Joe, Shawn B....) and sentence them to loving ridicule in this list. The official Bachelorette -- either Kaitlyn or Britt -- will be revealed Tuesday night in another hour special, but here are 13 highlights/lowlights from May 18's drunken, *dramatic,* and painfully awkward first episode.
1. Ryan Gets Drunk, Says Dumb Stuff
Ryan M. both won and lost the night for the same reason: He was That Guy.

Spanning two days and five hours of television, this is the biggest, most dramatic blog ever. I hope you enjoyed the way ABC programmed the Men Tell All on Sunday and rolled right into Monday’s dramatic season finale, which led us right into After the Final Rose. The Men Tell All special was a fun show to host. This is a very good group of guys that I enjoyed hanging around with this season so there really weren’t a lot of fireworks. I was very disappointed Bentley didn’t show up for the taping. As I mentioned we...

For an episode subtitled “The Men Tell All,” Sunday night’s installment of The Bachelorette — the fetid (un)appetizer to tonight’s season finale — contained precious little in the way of scintillating intel. We discovered that Ashley suffered a toe cramp while practicing Tai Chi with Ryan in Taiwan (probably because her pants were so tight, she lost circulation to her extremities). We learned that our heroine likes to slather her face with Vaseline right before bedtime. (“You don’t wanna sleep next to me: That’s all I’m saying!” Ashley grinned, continuing her reign of unwitting romantic self-sabotage.

It wasn't just bad guy Bentley that you didn't see at The Bachelorette's The Men Tell All reunion special on Sunday night. When Ashley Hebert came face to face with the suitors she sent packing, a few members of the Bachelor Pad 2 cast and Bachelor franchise veterans in Hollywood, there were smiles, sobs and swearing. Here's what you didn't see on TV: • William Holman, 30, hasn't had any luck finding a girlfriend. "Most people say, 'You're William from The Bachelorette, right? Do you have Blake's number?' " he said. "It's either Blake or Mickey." Yet William told People that...

We've got two Cmt shows premiering tonight, both of which seem to be rather blatant knock offs of other reality series which just leaves me further convinced that there are too many television channels and yet there seems to be no end to the creation of new ones. Which leads me to wonder; what would your ideal television channel be? And doesn't the internet sort of already fill that purpose? If you like Animal Planet you'll love YouTube, featuring as many videos of cute animals as you can stand and all catered to your particular desires. Love those "Stupidest Videos Part 74638" shows? Same deal. Those of you without my hang-ups about watching non-legally licensed material have even more options at your disposal. But we are talking about television so if you Could program a TV channel for a day, what would you pick? While you're thinking about that, here's your...

Donkeys, llamas, eagles, and snakes were at the St. Louis Zoo yesterday to greet actor Kevin James, along with several hundred human fans of the Paul Blart Mall Cop star. They lined the red carpet on a hot Wednesday morning to catch a glimpse of the actor who was in town for the premier of his new comedy Zookeeper which was screened inside the Zoo.s Living World Center at 10am. This is the first time our city.s Zoo has hosted a movie premiere and it went well. Additional animals in attendance included several St. Louis Blues hockey players, Adam Wainwright and Jack Clark from the baseball Cardinals, The Loop.s Joe Edwards, some guy from The Bachelorette, and Channel 2.s Tim Ezell in a gorilla suit. Kevin James arrived on the Zoo train and graciously signed autographs and mingled with fans. I didn.t see him talk to...

Players, haters, liars, jaded jerks and emotionally immature idiots — these guys give ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘The Bachelorette’ a bad name! They obviously didn’t read their contracts — these are shows about love!
The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are supposed to be series about finding love, but some guys just don’t go on the show for the right reasons. Others just aren’t mature enough or honest enough to get serious with the women they meet. Bentley Williams, Brad Womack, Jake Pavelka, Tim McCormack, Jason Mesnick, Wes Hayden, Kasey Kahl and Justin Rego have all been called out for their bad boy ways — but we want to know who you think is the worst Bachelor of all?

After only two episodes, this season of The Bachelorette has already featured a drunk suitor who passed out on the first night, a mysterious man in a mask and a trash-talking single dad who, despite admitting that Ashley Hebert wasn't his type, wooed her fiercely. Host Chris Harrison spoke with reporters to preview next week's explosive drama. Bentley made it clear that he hoped Emily Maynard was the Bachelorette. Why cast him? He obviously didn't say all those derogatory things in casting. He might have said, "It would be cool if it was Emily." He obviously didn't say, "If it's Ashley,...

Who got voted off instead of Bentley (and Why)? [May 31] The new season of ABC’s The Bachelorette, starring dental student Ashley Hebert, has started. So far, 2011 looks like it’s going to be a hot season. Big players include Bentley, Jeff (Aka the masked guy), and Tim who was eliminated for acting a fool and getting totally drunk on the premiere episode. Who’s left then? Well, single father Bentley is still on the show, surprisingly. The ones that were eliminated during the second episode of The Bachelorette include Matt (28), Stephen (27), and Ryan M (27). Who are these guys and why did these bachelor contestants not get a rose after the cocktail hour on the evening of the 2nd rose ceremony hosted by Chris Harrison? The second rose ceremony of Season 7 of The Bachelorette found three bachelor contestants eliminated. Ashley chose to eliminate Matt, a 28-year-old office supply man. If you don’t remember him,...

And the kissing begins! Right off the bat, I wanted to see how well the guys could handle themselves in a city of temptation, so I took them to Las Vegas! There is an energy about that city that like no other place in the world. I knew the guys wouldn't expect to leave the mansion so quickly, and I looked forward to surprising them with this trip. To this day, I will still say that my date with William was the best first date I have ever been on. At first glance, he is a handsome, charming, funny guy,...

The Bachelorette! Ashley Hebert reunited with celebrity rehab dad? [May 30] Dubbed as America’s newest sweetheart since Ali, Ashley Hebert and her eligible bachelor contestants had an interesting time during the premiere which involved some guy with a mask, previews of Bentley’s rumors motivation for being on the show, and of course Tim’s drunken antics. With so much going on, did Ashley even realize she may have been resolving issue she faced with her father as a young girl on national television? With a history of living with a father struggling with alcohol addiction problems, it was probably pretty disturbing trying to get rid of Tim from the show during the premiere episode of the new season of The Bachelorette. The dental student turned Monday night reality television star, which had vied for the heart of Brad Womack, has reunited with her celebrity rehab father and claims she is...

Bachelorette contestant Tim McCormack has admitted that he found it uncomfortable to watch himself on the premiere episode of the new season. The liquor distributor from Long Beach, NY, slurred his words while talking to Ashley Hebert and eventually fell asleep, admitting that he drank too much to calm his nerves. "I started to watch it and it was stomach turning. I really wasn't able to make it through the whole show," he told reporters on a conference call this week. McCormack departed The Bachelorette before the first rose ceremony had even taken place after Ashley enlisted the other men's help in moving him from the pool area to a car waiting to take him home. "I knew there were 25 guys in the room and you have to make yourself stand out. Obviously I stood out and it didn't exactly work!" he told Digital Spy when asked if (more)...

If you've been keeping up with my Bachelorette coverage so far, you know I have only love for "Drunk Tim," aka Tim McCormack, the liquor distributor who made a splash by showing up sloshed to the first cocktail party and fell asleep before the first rose ceremony. He may not have gotten a rose from Ashley, but he was definitely one of the most memorable bachelors of the night.
Tim talked to the media in a conference call this morning, and while he maintains a healthy sense of humor about the whole thing, he revealed that he did not watch the full episode on Monday night because he was so disgusted by his own behavior. "I literally had to turn it off. It was nauseating."
The details are still understandably hazy for the 35-year-old from Long Beach, New York who maintains he went on The Bachelorette to find love. He...

The Bachelorette! Who was that drunk guy on the first episode of 2011? [May 24] The TV show, ABC’s The Bachelorette 2011 premiered on Monday May 23rd, 2011 and already the fun started! Ashley Hebert, bachelorette finalist from The Bachelor 2011 with Brad Womack, in fact one of the top 3 finalists, is the star of the show now! The Bachelorette premiere focused on Ashley meeting with her 25 bachelors for a cocktail party. From some guy wearing a mask to another one getting completely smashed, each guy was unique and downright weird in his own way! Bachelorette Trista Rehn would have definitely had her hands full with this group of energetic single men! Reality TV will be entertaining as Ashley Hebert embarks on her dating adventure. Something a bit different during this premiere cocktail part was that one of the bachelors, Tim from Masssapequa, New York, a liquor distributor, got totally drunk during the cocktail party...
