Sebastian DeWay
- Sound Department
Sebastien is a French-Canadian from Montreal who regards himself as belonging to the generation of composer-producer-performer who use the laptop as a musical instrument. This compositional tool allows him to develop his musical skills as much on stage as in the studio. Since 2015, the Ableton Push 2 and the Novation Launchpad Control XL impel his compositions and performance practice.
His Ph.D. research investigated the use of spatialisation tools and techniques to enhance electronic dance music through an immersive sound experience. This research project was accomplished with the guidance of Professor Monty Adkins at the University of Huddersfield. Sebastien's works have a form and shape arising from pre-compositional and in-the-moment decisions, aiming at creating a sense of immersion within the concert space.
He has worked on sound spatialisation with Professor Robert Normandeau at University of Montreal, from 2007 to 2013. Also, he has benefited from an exchange program in order to study in England, at De Montfort University, with Professor John Young in 2011-2012.
Sebastien is a 2014 winner in the CEC's annual JTTP project. This national association supports the work of Canadian-based young and emerging sound artists.
