Kathleen Mullen born in Edmonton, Alberta, grew up in both Canada and the San Francisco Bay Area. She has contributed to the planning and execution of film and art festivals nationally and internationally and is an independent filmmaker, film programmer, and consultant (Letter K Media). Mullen has programmed for and worked with film festivals and organizations including Toronto International Film Festival, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival, Whistler Film Festival, Planet in Focus, Provincetown International Film Festival among others.
Since 2014 Kathleen has been part of Three Dollar Bill Cinema (TDBC) as Festival Director of Seattle Queer Film Festival (Three Dollar Bill Cinema) and Interim Executive Director. In 2020, she oversaw TDBC's two online festivals, Seattle Queer Film Festival and Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival.
Presently she is based in Vancouver, British Columbia teaching film festival management at Universities in both the US and Canada as well as curating and continuing to consult on rough cuts and programming.
Kathleen has a Master of Arts from Carleton University and a Master of Fine Arts from York University. Her films include the award-winning documentary Breathtaking and short films Button OUT!, you wash my skin with sunshine, and Sleep Lines that have all screened internationally.
