London, July 9 (Ians) England beat Australia by five wickets via Dls method in a rain-affected third and final T20I to win the series 2-1 at Lord’s and keep their slim hopes of winning the multi-format Women’s Ashes 2023 alive, here on late Saturday night.
Teenager Alice Capsey (46 off 24) combined with vice-captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt (25 off 25) to steer England to a revised target of 119 off 14 overs with four balls to spare and with five wickets in hand in front of yet another record-breaking crowd in London.
Late wickets helped Australia push England’s chase into the final over; with just two runs to defend, Jess Jonassen trapped Heather Knight lbw first ball, but Dani Gibson iced victory next delivery with a reserve sweep for four.
With this, England inflicted World Champions Australia’s first bilateral series defeat in the format since 2017.

Australia opener Beth Mooney is leading Gujarat, while India captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be captaining Mumbai. "I find Mumbai Indians stronger on paper and Gujarat got a jolt in Deandra Dottin being ruled out of tournament, with Australia’s Kim Garth coming in as a replacement."
"I joked around with my fellow commentator, England pacer Kate Cross, that keep your hands ready, you could get a call for as a replacement. I guess the franchise could be knowing that Dottin may not be fit. On paper, Mumbai look more stronger than Gujarat. But one side has Harmanpreet Kaur and other has Beth Mooney. It should be great fun," said Anjum, the Wpl Expert for Sports18 and JioCinema, in a select virtual roundtable on Saturday.
Asked on who could be the winner of the inaugural edition of the Wpl, Anjum remarked, "I did a review and I thought that Rcb, Mi look very balanced on paper.

The idea behind the promo is crystal clear – cricketers have been household names in India for a long time. With the Wpl, all set to begin from Saturday in Navi Mumbai, it will now make various women cricketers household names too, seen from initial matches being completely sold out.
In the Wpl running till March 26, 87 players will be participating, out of which 28 are uncapped Indian cricketers. With very little television or streaming coverage of women’s domestic cricket matches, the Wpl presents a golden chance for those talented players to showcase their skills in front of a worldwide audience.
"Wpl will definitely benefit state players, uncapped players and other players who are playing the game, and will bring a change in them. Like, when I saw Harry (Harmanpreet Kaur) go and play Wbbl in the first year and when she came back, I saw a perceivable change in her approach to the game.

Dubai, Oct 11 (Ians) India women’s team allrounder Deepti Sharma has moved to a career-best third position in the latest Icc T20I Rankings for bowlers with her exceptional performance in the Asia Cup, currently underway in Bangladesh.
The 25-year-old off-spinner picked up 3/27 against Pakistan, 2/13 against Bangladesh and 2/10 versus Thailand.
Sharma’s rise has seen her go past West Indies’ in-form star Hayley Matthews, South African pacer Shabnim Ismail and Australia’s Megan Schutt in the rankings. However, despite her fine form, two English players remain ahead of Sharma in the rankings, with Sarah Glenn and Sophie Ecclestone in second and first position respectively.
Sharma’s efforts have also seen her inch ahead of Ashleigh Gardner in the All-rounders’ Rankings, meaning the Indian now lies in a career-best third spot, behind Matthews and New Zealand cricketer Sophie Devine.
But arguably the most notable shift by an All-rounder has come from New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr.

Sydney, Feb 6 (Ians) Australia batsman Steve Smith beat Pat Cummins by 12 votes to win the Allan Border Medal, the highest honour in Australian men's cricket.
This is the third time he is winning the prestigious medal. He was pipped by David Warner by one vote last year.
The right-handed batsman made the most runs for Australia across all formats in the voting period with 1,098 at an average of 45.75. The effort was built on four half centuries and four centuries.
"I was a bit surprised. I don't know, I didn't feel like I had the biggest Test summer, which I think holds the most votes. I think my one-day cricket was pretty good last year, so I obviously got a lot of votes there," said Smith after winning the medal.
"I didn't expect it. I thought Marnus or Pat Cummins were probably the front-runners because they both had exceptional years.
