The X Factor's Six Chair Challenge was a tough watch last week. With some serious talent, the stakes for Rita Ora and her Girls really did feel high.
That wasn't so much the case this time around.
The problem with the Six Chair Challenge is that it's difficult to edit it much - the producers are tied to a certain extent by whether anyone is sitting in the chairs (and who is sitting in the chairs). So when Nick Grimshaw began his category all confident and got slowly ground down by the lack of talent on offer, there wasn't much the producers could do but play it out as it was.
Sure, it's a good enough storyline that the Boys have fallen apart, but poor performance after poor performance is dispiriting and hardly something that's going to immediately suck in the viewers.
Even when Tom Bleasby and Jamie Eldridge were gifted with seats,...

The X Factor wrapped up filming on its auditions yesterday, and you know what that means - the show's even closer to being back! And boy, what a treat we're in for if these previous auditions are anything to go by.
The audition stages always throw up some weird and wonderful acts, so we've collected just 13 of the best (and most bonkers) that remind us why we're so excited about The X Factor's return...
1. George Gerasimou (and Dermot telling him off)
Where do we even start? This is one of our favourite auditions ever. It starts off on a positive note as George explains that he has grown up since his awful try-out with Triple Trouble - but then as soon as Gary calls an early stop to the music, George kicks off big time, snarling all the while, and his mate joins him on stage to back him up.

They left it to the last minute, but The X Factor put those pesky judge rumours to bed last week when they finally confirmed the line-up - Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Mel B and (of course) Louis Walsh. But while we're pleased that's over, we're obviously going to miss the wild and ridiculous speculation.
Fear not, though! The first room auditions are kicking off in Manchester this afternoon, so the rumour mill isn't dead - it's just moved on. But what are we going to hear about this year? Digital Spy has looked into its crystal ball to predict some of the things we'll hear...
1. Cheryl and Mel B hate each other.
We did our bit to encourage this particular rumour by muttering darkly to anyone that would listen that Cheryl was the only judge not to make a comment about Mel B in the press release announcing her appointment.

It's not just Doctor Who's birthday this weekend - The X Factor is celebrating its tenth anniversary on Saturday and Sunday. Now, here at Digital Spy, we're never one to miss a party, so we strapped on some hats, got stuck into some jelly and ice cream and then sat down for a nice little nostalgia-fest about our favourite X Factor moments from the past decade. Join us as we reminisce about times gone by...

My favourite X Factor moment has to be 'Gummogate', a kerfuffle that saw Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh quarrelling over American independent cinema. Jamie Archer's rendition of 'Crying' during 2009's Movie Week (c'mon, Simon, have you *really* seen that film?) irked Louis so much he seemed to question the very existence of Harmony Korine's cult oddity. This all leads to the question... has Louis seen Spring Breakers?...

Tulisa Contostavlos today (May 21) shocked precisely nobody by confirming rumours that she will be leaving The X Factor after two series, tweeting that she is off to "do something different" and will make "a very exciting announcement soon".
She may not have been around for long, but Tulisa certainly managed to cause fireworks during her short stay on the panel, becoming a regular feature of Digital Spy's showbiz section from the moment she was hired.
As she gets to work clearing out her dressing room, we chart Tulisa Contostavlos's controversial X Factor journey below...
Tulisa flips over Cheryl Cole barb
Starting as she meant to go on, Tulisa couldn't make it through the first episode of her X Factor career without a Contostavlos Controversy...
When Tulisa was announced for the new-look X Factor panel in 2011, everyone wondered just how the former N-Dubz star was going to possibly compete with 'nation's sweetheart' Cheryl Cole.
