Netflix’s latest true crime documentary anthology series “Trial by Media” opens with a chapter on a story from the periphery of ’90s daytime TV that may not be a collective household memory. Still, the story of the murder of Scott Amedure makes for an illustrative first chapter in the way that legal proceedings and press coverage have become intertwined in the national consciousness.
It tells the story behind an unaired episode of “The Jenny Jones Show,” a daytime TV installment that saw Amedure profess his feelings for Jonathan Schmitz in front of a live studio audience. Just days after the taping, Schmitz approached Amedure and shot him. Charged with murder, the heated public debate over Schmitz’s guilt or innocence centered on whether or not his feelings of embarrassment were justification for his actions.
The subsequent trials — both in the Schmitz murder case and the Amedure family’s lawsuit...

"They're killers. All of ’em. They might not always strike, but they always want to. They devote their existence to shoppers, and what do they get in return? Abused. Mistreated. Hit by cars because people can't walk the ten feet to put ’em back in their proper place."
Intruder meets Christine in James Feeney's Killer Kart, an expertly crafted short film that pits a supermarket's closing crew against a vengeful four-wheeled adversary that's a lot smaller than a ’58 Plymouth Fury scorned, but is every bit as vicious. Killer Kart recently had the honor of being featured on ShortoftheWeek.com, and we now have the highly entertaining horror comedy for Daily Dead readers to enjoy.
Synopsis: "The shopping cart. Four wheels, one basket, and tonight, for the closing crew of a small-town grocery store, a blood-splattered aluminum nightmare!"

Mile High Horror Film Festival
Oct. 3-6, 2013
Littleton, Colorado
A lot of thought, hard work and dedication went into the Mile High Horror Film Festival this year. With over 60 quality feature films, shorts, and music videos from 13 different countries, the 4 day fest hosted by Alamo Draft House (allies to the independent film genre) had camp to vamp and everything in between.
The festival had a wealth of new and old industry blood, live performance artists (or free range zombies, whichever you prefer), and an intriguing assortment of vendors and artists. The enthusiastic attendees can never be accused of living in their parents basements, but one step better, underneath their parents basement…
Some real stand outs besides the critic and audience pick winners were: Fist of Jesus- A Mexican import exploring the theme that Lazarus was indeed the first zombie. Hell No- A hilarious take...

Last October the hilarious horror comedy Killer Kart slayed its competition during La's Screamfest, where it won the award for Best Horror Comedy Short, making it a short this writer absolutely wanted to include in the first ever CineMayhem just a few weeks ago.
And despite already finding tons of success on the festival circuit in 2012, Killer Kart isn't quite done just yet- the short is still making the fest rounds this year with upcoming screenings in Seattle and Houston, and it is also up for a major award during the Palm Beach International Film Festival, which will be presented later this week.
Directed by James Feeney, Killer Kart stars Christine Rodriguez, Ray Bouchard, Elly Shaefer and Britt Michael Gordon. In honor of Indie Horror Month 2013, Dread Central recently chatted with Feeney about the short film, which was also happened to be the up-and-coming filmmaker's thesis project at Florida State University.
