"This is the best you could come up with? Leave me here with our baby while you chase oil?" Good Deed Entertainment has posted a new trailer for the 2017 film titled Boomtown, about a family going to work in the oil fields. This originally premiered at the 2017 Nashville Film Festival and we posted a trailer back then for its initial release in the fall of that year. For some reason, 7 years later it's getting another VOD release in 2024. A young father and husband looks towards the oil fields for a better life for him and his family. But will the fast money and glamour detour his agenda? Along the way he encounters the trials and tribulations shared by thousands of Americans every year as they stake their claim to the American Dream. Boomtown stars Tyler Riggs as Jt, along with Rachel Brosnahan, Boyd Holbrook, Dwight Yoakam, Jocelin Donahue. Not sure...

Actress Amber Midthunder, who is a regular on the CW series Roswell, New Mexico and previously co-starred in FX’s Legion, stars in The Wheel, an indie feature, which she also produced. Steve Pink is the director and also produced the pic. Pink is known for films like Hot Tub Time Machine 1&2, 2014’s About Last Night, and co-wrote the original High Fidelity film. Midthunder co-stars alongside Taylor Gray, whose credits include Star Wars Rebels and American Princess. The Wheel centers on Albee and Walker, a couple on the verge of divorce. Married at 16, they’re now 24 and miserable. Albee wants out, while Walker wants to make it work – no matter the damage. This is their Hail Mary; a weekend in the mountains to work through a book that might save their relationship via total, brutal honesty. Nelson Lee (Mulan), Bethany Anne Lind (Ozark), and Kevin Pasdon (New Amsterdam) round out the cast.

"Have you ever been to North Dakota?" The Orchard has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Boomtown, set in the oil fields of North Dakota. This fictional story follows John 'Jt' Turner, played by Tyler Riggs, who leaves his family and his hometown to travel up to Williston and work in the booming oil industry. His journey is filled with setbacks and great challenges as documented in this portrayal of the relentless pursuit of the American Dream (e.g. make a lot of money doing crappy hard work). The full cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Rachel Brosnahan, Dwight Yoakam, and Jocelin Donahue. This reminds me to recommend, once again, one of the best documentaries I've seen in years - The Overnighters - which was filmed in/around Williston. This looks solid, without any over-dramatized aspects, thankfully. Check it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Sabyn Mayfield's Boomtown,...

Before the North Dakota oil boom (as witnessed in Jesse Moss’ The Overnighters), a good century back, there was the another type of boom. Commonly associated with the West, North Dakota was home to a short lived gold rush. Sabyn Mayfield will tap into the reserves of two up-and-comer players for what will be his directorial debut as THR reports that Boyd Holbrook and Rachel Brosnahan will topline Boomtown alongside Jocelin Donahue and newcomer Tyler Riggs. Holbrook is set to play Jt’s childhood best friend and Brosnahan plays a local bartender in the oil town.

In an effort to make ends meet, the main character leaves his family behind to pursue a grueling, yet highly coveted, job in a now booming oil industry.
