Jonathan Knowles has been engaged with technology and the entertainment industry since childhood. Surrounded by friends and neighbors who acted, directed, wrote, produced, or were otherwise in the film and television industry, Knowles attended high school with classmates Kevin Spacey, Val Kilmer, and Mare Winningham, where their teacher Robert Carrelli introduced him to the art and craft of directing.
Knowles is the former Product Manager at Apple for QuickTime, the extensible multimedia framework capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, sound, panoramic images, and interactivity.
Knowles is a senior advisor to the CEO and CTO at Autodesk where he serves as Explorer in Residence. Autodesk is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Scientific and Engineering and Technical Achievement. Autodesk makes tools for filmmakers, designers, architects, scientists, engineers, makers, and game developers.
Knowles is also the Singularity University Distinguished Fellow for Science, Technology, Innovation, and Exploration and Director of Faculty Affairs and holds an appointment as the Science and Exploration Fellow at Mission Blue, The Sylvia Earle Alliance. Additionally, he sits on the boards of several ocean, space, and education organizations.
