In 2005, the U.S. Government retroactively awarded him the Distinguished Service Medal for his wartime military service.
During World War 2, Kuroki completed 58 bomber missions over enemy territory on three continents. He was a turret tail gunner. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
After the war, Kuroki earned a Journalism Degree at the University of Nebraska. He worked as a journalist for small publications in three states.
