Mônica da Silva is a Brazilian American singer-songwriter, and musician, who grew up living between The Midwest, United States, and Belém, Brazil. She is a multilingual composer, who writes lyrics in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Italian.
Da Silva's debut album "Brasilissima" (2010), features songs in English and Portuguese. The first single "Aí Então", is also featured on the Putumayo World Music compilation "Brazilian Beat" (2011). Another composition from that record, "That's Not The Way", was played during the programming of The World Cup in 2014, alongside major recording artists Coldplay, Sergio Mendes, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, Black Eyed Peas, Stan Getz, and Astrud Gilberto.
In 2015, da Silva co-wrote a song called "Vou Voar" with Miami based DJ and artist Mr. Pauer, for his album "Orange". The album quickly became a favorite at KCRW in Los Angeles. Da Silva went on to perform the song on the highly regarded program "Morning Becomes Eclectic", and also at The Official After Party of The Latin Grammy Awards.
In 2017, da Silva's song "Back To His Girl", was featured in the movie "Lady Bird". The film received 41 major nominations in 2018, winning 13 awards, including Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy (Saoirse Ronan), and Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Da Silva released her single "Soldado de Amor" in 2017. The track was nominated for a 2018 International Brazilian Press Award, and was featured in the BBC One series "The Replacement" (2017), and in the Paramount Network series "American Woman" (2018).
Da Silva performs, and releases music under her name, and also with her duo, Complicated Animals. In 2015, Complicated Animals released a 6-song EP called "In This Game". The first single from the EP, "Phoenix", is featured in the 2109 Netflix Original Movie "The Last Summer".
