- The family scion is said to have been the favorite son and had a striking physical resemblance to his father. Little is known about the lives of the members of the Kim dynasty because their lives are taboo, especially in the state media. Kim Jong Un was raised in the ideology of his father and grandfather. Like his brothers, he is said to have attended the Steinhölzli School in Köniz-Liebefeld in the canton of Bern between 1998 and 2000, but under the name Pak Un as the son of a North Korean embassy driver. According to speculation, he also attended an international private school in the canton of Bern from 1990 to 1998. From 2002 to 2007, he studied at Kim Il Sung University in North Korea, an elite military institution. This was followed by a party career in a management department.
The father, Kim Jong Il, who died on December 17, 2011, specifically prepared his youngest son for the successor while he was still alive. He brought him into the leadership of the state party in September 2010 and made him a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Work. At the same time, as a four-star general, he became deputy chairman of the party's military commission. These measures effectively made him his successor. On December 31, 2011, Kim Jong Un was appointed Supreme Commander of the North Korean Armed Forces. From the beginning of his reign, the new ruler, like his father, relied on the communist state party and the military. For many observers, it was therefore uncertain whether he would open up to Western ideas or whether he would further isolate the country.
As is usual in a communist state, the personality cult was also very pronounced in North Korea. Like his father, the young head of state is also known as the "Sun of the Korean People." Even though North Korea's young ruler appeared to be more close to the people, he emphasized old issues such as the military and nuclear weapons. Kim Jong Un liked to show himself to the public as a strong leader of his country and surrounds himself with soldiers, weapons and tanks with determination and propaganda effectiveness. International criticism lamented the luxurious and very lavish lifestyle of the Kim dynasty, while the North Korean people largely suffer from hunger and rely on survival assistance from the international community. This imbalance is supposed to have a system in that Kim Jong Un not only loves fast cars, alcohol and beautiful women, but also creates assets abroad, as does the party and the military.
The country's political and economic leadership is also caught in the crossfire, and is also held responsible for the impoverishment of the population. North Korea is still considered the poorhouse of Asia. Human rights violations in North Korea in 2012 include 200,000 political prisoners. After just a few months as head of state, Kim Jong Un had the term "nuclear power" incorporated into the country's constitution. The country had already publicly adorned itself with its nuclear power on the occasion of the death of Kim Jong Il. Western observers estimate that Kim Jong Un is now also using this military potential to negotiate with the international community for economic support, among other things.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Christian_Wolfgang_Barth
