Marco Ursino
Marco has been immersed in the entertainment industry in both the United States and Italy for the past forty years. He began his career as a radio broadcaster at Radio Liguria International in 1975. Through the late 70s and the early 80s, Marco collaborated with three other radio stations across Italy: Radio Torino Liberty, Radio Siderno, and Radio Italia 1. In the same period, he was also performing as a resident DJ in top nightclubs such as Centralino (Torino), Pop 2000 (Imperia), Cicala (Messina).
In the mid-1980's Marco appeared as an actor in various video projects produced by and aired on Quartarete TV (Torino) and in various short independent films produced in Italy.
In 1998, Marco moved from Italy to New York. While he was earning a degree in communications at Saint John's University, Marco was a broadcaster for WICN Radio (Italian Communication Network), where he also produced a weekly talk show. He also collaborated as voice artist for institutions such as MOMA and The Frick Collection and gave his voice to Calvin Klein, Dow, Barilla, and Alitalia's national and international TV commercial campaigns. In 1998, Marco was asked to join SAG.
From the early 90s he dedicated himself to production design "Beyond Reason", an independent short subject film, "The Short Life of a Love Affair", a short subject film, "One Deadly Road" and "Golden Age of Pleasure", feature films released in 1999.
He has also produced and directed various independent film and video projects, including "Clouds of Magellan", a 16mm feature-length narrative; "Media Alert", a feature-length documentary; a music video for "Major League Records" and many commercials that aired on all the Time Warner Cable stations.
His passion for filmmaking and his growing involvement with the independent film industry resulted in the realization of the "Williamsburg Brooklyn Film Festival" which Marco founded and directed from 1998-2001.
For the festival, Marco identified and developed the yearly theme, secured funds, negotiated and finalized all contracts, hired staff, professional freelancers, volunteers, interns, and presenters. He supervised all departments: Marketing, Advertising, Promotion, Design, PR, Programming, Production, and Presentation.
In 2002, Marco founded the Brooklyn International Film Festival which he Executive Directed through 2009. Under his guidance the festival became one of the most important international festivals in NY by establishing foreign relations with more than 110 countries.
In 2010, Marco founded the Brooklyn Film Festival, a 501 (c )(3) non-profit corporation. Marco is still behind, as Executive Director, the Brooklyn Film Festival.
In 2009, Marco started with two partners IndieScreen, a Cinema, Bar, Lounge built from scratch in a 7,500 sf. space located in Williamsburg-Brooklyn. He curated film screenings and live events, negotiated rental and partnership agreements, managed theater's daily operations, and promoted film content. On this new venture, Marco operated as Artistic Director, indie Screen. The club closed down in 2014 because the landlord didn't renew the lease.
Through his work, Marco personally reviewed thousands of films. His point of view, his ability to research and drive a project from concept to market, his technical knowledge, his organizational skills, and his passion for detail, as well as his talent to work efficiently with skeletal or large teams have earned him a new slot among the new up and coming directors and producers.
