Hector M. Sanchez Jr. is a freelance Camera Operator, AC, Aerial Cinematographer and independent director. Born and raised in New York City, Hector discovered his passion for cinematic-storytelling after viewing the 1999 film, The Matrix. The films complex story, visual effects, and physiological undertone introduced Hector to a whole new world of story telling. He instantly began researching about the Wachowskis, and several other filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and James Cameron. He was so inspired by the works of all these amazing directors, he knew this was the career path he wanted.
During his time at Transit Tech High School in Brooklyn, he began teaching himself how to edit on Adobe Premiere, and Sony Vegas Pro. He also taught himself graphic design by watching tutorials online. Soon enough he was designing robots, and starships based on his favorite films, and television shows. After graduating High School, Hector decided to study filmmaking at Full Sail University.
There he discovered his love for cinematography, and the technical aspects of camera work. He went on to directed two of the five short films the university pays for, and worked as the lead camera operator on the remaining three. Over the next few years, Hector collaborated with many others who shared his passion, which lead to him directing and co-producing four short films.
After graduating from Full Sail and moving to Miami Beach, Hector got his foot through the door as a Media Manager, and has since worked his way up to camera operator. He has also works as a assistant camera operator or technical supervisor. He's worked for several major networks, including Discovery, AMC, TLC, Travel Channel, VH1, UNBC, Telemundo, Univision and Esquire.
Even though he primarily works in the camera department, he still pursues a career in directing. He directed a short documentary for indie pop artist, Darren Ockert. The documentary won best short film at the Orlando Film Slam. From there, he went on to direct two of Mr. Ockert's music videos, both being nominated at the Libby Awards for best music video. He's also directed 4 inspirational commercial for Cross-Fit A1A/305, and soon after that, he directed a TV spot for TK's at the Villa Mayfair.
For the time being, Hector continues to work hard on his craft, and hopes to work on feature length film as a cinematographer, and eventually as a director.
