If you look at elite athletes, there are very few who don't practise some form of high-intensity interval training. It's been around for decades. But what we're starting to understand now is that the basic approach of peaks and valleys - going hard and backing off - can be applied safely to many different populations, including those with chronic diseases, and elicit a wide range of benefits.
