Received his degree from Columbia Graduate School in 1967.
Was president of the Philadelphia chapter of the Gay Activists Alliance. There he founded its publication The Gay Alternative.
Founded Out/Look: National Lesbian & Gay Quarterly.
In the 1990s he joined New York City's Department of Health & Mental Hygiene where he oversaw advertising campaigns on HIV, asthma, smoking and West Nile Virus.
