John Gaither(I)
- Writer
- Director
- Producer
John is an artist who tried but repeatedly failed to follow more conventional paths in life. He was born on the next to the last day of the 1950s to PJ, a tool designer and Thelma, a housewife and former defense plant employee. He has always learned by doing.
John grew up in Hurst, Texas as the youngest of four children. He began piano lessons at six, joined his first garage band at 14, and was a professional musician by 22. His first gig was a four year stint with The Party Crashers, a house band in Arlington, Texas. In 1993, he joined the Indianapolis-based creative arts division of a major non-profit and toured all over the US and around the world with a variety of cover bands.
After leaving the road he fell into filmmaking in 2007 through a two-week crash course taught by visiting faculty from Compass Academy, a small film school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As a filmmaker he's been producer, director, screenwriter, art director, wardrobe coordinator, post audio supervisor and composer of a couple of short film scores. He produced four student films, was writer/director for three short films and produced many other projects and videos. He also spent over ten years on the community theatre stage.
He and his wife Pam married late, so in lieu of children there have always been two cats in the house. They live in Orlando, Florida.
