In the quiet, seaside town of Broadchurch, a child has been murdered. Eleven-year-old Danny Latimer’s (Oskar McNamara) body is found on the beach. Despite the giant cliff above the site, they discern that his death wasn’t from jumping/falling off. They also discern that the crime scene is not where the murder actually happened. So begins an 8-episode, months-long investigation into who killed Danny Latimer that will rock the entire community.
Newly hired Di Alec Hardy (David Tennant) is in charge of the investigation. He’s harboring some secrets from his past, having chosen to relocate to this small town to avoid the scandals associated with them. His hiring snubs DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) who was promised his position. Her resentment for this and Hardy’s own off-putting demeanor create immediate strife between the two of them. Ellie has enough on her plate as it is, considering...

At 3:20 a.m. on a moonlit night, 11-year-old Danny Latimer (Oskar McNamara) stands shivering at the edge of a sheer cliff high above a beach. As he stares numbly at the pounding surf below, blood drips from the fingers of his right hand.
In just a few minutes, Danny is going to be dead, the victim of a murder that's about to rock his tiny hometown to its very foundations -- a town called Broadchurch, also the title of the electrifying eight-part British mystery series premiering Wednesday, Aug. 7, on BBC America.
Just a few hours before Danny's lifeless body is found lying on the beach, Detective Sgt. Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman), a Latimer family friend, has returned from a holiday to discover that a promotion she was all but promised has been given instead to an outsider: Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (David Tennant), a frosty gentleman whose terse style...

Murder, not to be glib, has become the narrative engine that powers half the shows on television, in which killings are a routine and regularly solved aspect of procedural life. On everything from "Bones" to "Unforgettable," cops and the various types (psychics, doctors, cannibals, etc) with which they're often paired dutifully go in search of killers each week, providing law, order and closure in hourlong increments. We're accustomed to dead bodies serving mainly as a signal for the start of a story about other characters, about the untangling of the latest mystery. Read More: Watch the Full First Episode of BBC America's Acclaimed Crime Drama 'Broadchurch' Not on "Broadchurch." Created and written by Chris Chibnall, the haunting eight-part series, which premieres on BBC America tomorrow, August 7th, at 10pm after airing in the UK in March and April, is focused on the case of a 11-year-old murder...

Broadchurch stars Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan have revealed that they are uncertain if they will be back for series two.
The hit crime drama will return for a second run, but Whittaker and Buchan - who played the parents of murder victim Danny Latimer (Oskar McNamara) - told journalists at last night's (May 12) BAFTA Television Awards that they "don't know anything" about the next series.
"No, we don't know anything," said Whittaker (Beth Latimer). "It would be lovely to be part of it again, but it's up to [writer] Chris Chibnall.
"He hasn't written it yet and he's got a lot of other projects on at the moment as well, so it's not until next year."
On following up series one's success, Buchan (Mark Latimer) added: "He's got a big old task on his shoulders, but he's got a lot of time."
Buchan also revealed that he had been amused...

British murder mystery Broadchurch, heading to the U.S. later this year on BBC America, is a worthy successor to Forbrydelsen. My take on ITV’s tantalizing thriller, which wraps up tonight in the U.K. Over at The Daily Beast, you can read my latest feature, "Broadchurch: This British Murder Mystery Will Be Your Next Television Obsession," in which I review ITV's sensational murder mystery Broadchurch, which stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman and which will head Stateside later this year on BBC America. Not to be missed! The British have an insatiable appetite for crime fiction, whether it appears in print or on television screens. Putting aside the twee tea cozy mysteries of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot, however, these thrillers are not only taut but also bleak depictions of the psychological fallout from murder: tracing, as novelist Ruth Rendell has done so well in her work,...
